I dont think you need such a great server to run that.

I ran my computer as a server off a cable modem (600kb/sec download 60kb/sec upload) and I can go up to 24 players at 50 ping. 20 players for 30ping.

I was using windows 2k professional, cable modem, 768mb of ddr ram, 2x 7200rpm hard drives on RAID STRIPE, 1.7ghz.

I dont run it anymore because shaw phoned me and politely asked me to turn it off since it was using too much bandwidth. (Yes, my ISP doesn't charge me extra $$$ for excess bandwidth: phew!)

Sure anyone can get a gaming server. But a proper one? A cable modem server is not a proper server? It works so why isn't it one? Is it not one because it doesn't cost $100 a month for the internet connection? Im sure a lot of people do not want to pay $$$ for 10 ping less than to get it for free.
