View Full Version : Online Backup Services
BretW 03-27-2008, 10:40 AM What do you guys like to see from an online backup service provider? What features would you like? Simple FTP account etc? Or a fancy web interface with bandwidth log etc?
Do tell!
Thanks,

keywolf 03-27-2008, 10:50 AM Hi Bret,
Take a look at Rsyncpalace for Rsync and FTP backup, We use them to backup our hosting accounts daily.

Something that works is all that really matters
PogiWeb 03-27-2008, 02:59 PM The only thing I really care about is my files are transferring over and it has unlimited bandwidth!
I also prefer Rsync method for my data
WickedShark 03-27-2008, 03:21 PM I think as long as it is simple and works and is reliable is what counts.
The other things are nice to have but not as important
serverfan 03-27-2008, 05:37 PM you can use at bqbackup.com they have rsync also and are very good
BretW 03-27-2008, 07:41 PM Just to point out i'm not looking to buy backup space? I'm looking for what people want for when I release mine I can offer customers what they want.
So, something simple like an FTP account would work for most people? Thanks for your ideas, anymore would be good
Thanks,
Bret Weber

and is extremely reliable in terms of data security and redundancy ;)

Will do!
Personally speaking I'd like the service to be dirt simple, easy to use, secured and last but not least cheap as chips! :) Hah Hah

Consider allowing Rsync access. FTP works for small amounts of data, but is not suitable for the amount of data you would find on a typical server. For daily backups, Rsync is often 100-300 times more efficient in terms of data transfer.
The Stealthy One 04-02-2008, 02:12 PM Here is what I would really like: an automated backup service that takes a mirror of each hard drive in a system and backs it up (files, apps, OS, everything) over the Internet. This operation would occur every evening, so it would not disturb the user. And, of course, after the first main backup, only changed files would have to be backed up every evening.
Even so, until broadband Internet access becomes even faster, perhaps this isn't very practical.
I'd like to see online backups done as a VPS service.
This would allow for full customization, access, and file metadata preservation.

Packet 04-06-2008, 09:41 AM A lot of feedback you will probally get on your question here will be from HSP's and not end users I could be wrong!
Its a super question !!
xzbackup 04-11-2008, 02:02 PM Things I think are important in a backup solution are data security/redundancy, no bandwidth caps, easy to use software, and quick retrieval of your data should you need to restore.
