View Full Version : registering nameservers
alpha 03-09-2001, 04:42 PM is there any to register nameservers for free?
my registrar (registerfly) charges $9.99 per nameserver (i think... and not sure about if thats recurring yearly or what).
Chicken said that NetSol can register nameservers, but how much?
thanks

Wherever your domain name is registered is where you need to register your nameservers.
alpha 03-09-2001, 11:58 PM yea but registerfly is charging $9.99 per nameserver!
i guess i shoulda considered this when i choose them as my registrar 30days ago...
my other option was to go with 000domains.com, which can allow you to create your nameservers for free without hassel :( its my fault since i didn't research too much into this before i registered
im getting some auto authentication problem e-mail through NetSol's host record (nameserver) registration... i just also registered myself as a contact to my domain in case thats all they needed.
if anyone know a way to make this process easier, please let me know.
thanks
sodapopinski 03-10-2001, 12:09 AM Transfer your domain from registerfly to 000domains.com.
Then create as many as nameserver through 000domains.com.
alpha 03-10-2001, 12:12 AM i would like to do that but see...
doesn't registrars charge their registration fee for transfers?
like if i transferred to 000domains, then they would charge me $13.50 right off?
or would they not charge me anything until the domain name expires (feb 2001)?
They would charge you, but that charge adds another year to your domain.
Elena 03-10-2001, 12:23 AM yes they would charge you, but it adds a year to the amount your domain already has.
so if your current domain expires february 2002..
the 000domains.com's fee will cover your domain for a year more after that (till february 2003 I think).
the $13.50 is worth it if you really want to use that domain for your nameservers. :D
darnit.. WeinBar beat me to it!
alpha 03-10-2001, 12:33 AM well...
thanks, thats one info i wasn't really sure on :)
----------------
- Domain name has been registered more than 60 days ago.
dang, thats one of 000domain's requirements for domain transfer and i don't think i can wait that long (another month).
i guess i have to at least try creating nameservers through NSI before i go berserk, thanks for all info :)

1. Thats with the 60 Day's comes what I know from ICANN.
2. Every Registar who charges you for register your Name-Server is a big Idiot, even NetworkSolution does not charge you for this and that say's something ;-)
3. My Tips for Registrar (that I use):
- Stargate Inc. (ICANN Acredit.) USD 10.-- when you register 1 Domain a Time or USD 8.-- when you register 2 or more Domains a Time; they have also a good Affiliate-Programm --)) http://www.stargateinc.com/ *
- PowerPipe [eNow Reseller] --)) http://www.powerpipe.com/
- CSL/Joker.com (ICANN Acredit. ex-CoreNIC-Reseller) --)) http://www.joker.com/ **
- BargainName (GKG Reseller btw. Stargate Inc. Reseller) will add a free Year (= you pay for one and get two) when you transfer to them --) http://www.bargainname.com/ ***
* = My new favorite Registrar when I register new Domains
** = My old Registrar but they are still OK - My personaly think its for them Time to change the Prices.
*** = I will use them to transfer My Domains from Joker to Stargate

I just finished chatting with stargateinc.com and they do offer free nameserver creations.
lol, i can't beleive registerfly doesn't!
but i still need to wait 60days before any transfer.
so, if anyone knows why NSI keeps giving me crap about authentication when I try to create nameservers through them, let me know :)
thanks
Probably because you are not registered with them
alpha 03-10-2001, 01:14 PM how long does it usually take you guys when you change your DNS through your registrars?
thanks
alpha 03-10-2001, 08:48 PM grrrrrrrRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have received your request to register or modify a host record.
However, we are unable to process it at this time because we cannot
verify its authenticity.
We have sent an e-mail notification message to Guardians for this
host and the domain name where the host resides, asking for their
approval or disapproval of the change you have asked for. We will
follow the first set of instructions we receive.
ok... someone tell me what who the Guardian of my host and the domain name where the host resides is... isn't it ME?
my technical/administrator info for the whois is ME! same e-mail same address, phone, everything! AHHHHHHHHHHHH
i might have to wait 30 days to transfer my domain to another not-so-stupid *cough*registerfly*cough* registrar unless someone can think of any other way i can create nameservers!

[QUOTE]
Is that Right alpha ? you mean registerfly charges 10 bucks to register/add a nameserver for my very own domain ?
I just bought my new domain name with them and i wanted to use my servers own dns *sigh* :( guess i'll transfer the new domain to 000domains but i think ive to wait for 15 days to do this, ...enom/registerfly sucks a**
alpha 03-10-2001, 11:49 PM yea ... im thinking about transferring over to either http://www.000domains.com or http://www.stargateinc.com
but i gotta wait about 30more days! :(
DHWWnet 03-11-2001, 12:02 AM Alpha, i sent an email to registerfly but they never replied to it :( i emailed them 2 hours ago...
I think you can transfer after 15 days to 000domains, i like it there bec. you can create/add nameservers for your own domain and its updated right away unlike nsi where you have to wait for 3 friggin days.
did yuo got an email from registerfly saying that you have to pay them 10 bucks per nameserver ? why would they charge for such a thing when it is your domain and your dns?
alpha 03-11-2001, 12:07 AM yea, i emailed them... they usually take about 12-24 hours to respond
hmm, i think 000domains still requires 60days after registration of a domain to request registrar transfer
hmm, i just tried to goto 000domains.com's site and look
Our Root registry Gateway will be taken offline for a scheduled maintenance beginning at 8 PM (CT) on March 10, 2001 for 4-6 hours.
We expect to restore service between 12 AM - 2 AM (CT) March 11, 2001. During this time our services will not be available.
We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience!
one thing i liked about stargateinc.com was that when i went to their site, they implemented live support and i chatted with them and asked them questions
they have a specific live help time schedule, i found that very helpful and registration is cheaper then 000domains
:)
DHWWnet 03-11-2001, 12:11 AM OK i'll check stargateinc :) but i still like 000 they are an opensrs/tucows reseller and ya there site is somewhat down but it should be back up by 12 so they say...
Nwyas, i'll take a look at stargateinc
Thanks again :)
Byron 01-13-2002, 11:17 PM Is it confirmed that RegisterFly charges us to create nameservers? Anyone registered their nameservers at RegisterFly or got a confirmation from them regardng this issue?
thewitt 01-13-2002, 11:20 PM The 60 day transfer requirement is for all gTLD domains, and is imposed by the Registry - not the Registrar.
It doesn't matter who you transfer to - you have to wait 60 days.
