Hi.

We plan to get managed server (maybe some of you already seen our request in request forum) and have some questions.

Thanks in advance for your help.

If we get a RedHat server with WHM/Cpanel then

1- Which softwares can easily be managed and updated via WHM?

2- Which softwares needs special attention and can not be installed and updated via WHM

These softwares/patches maybe;

Apache
MySQL
Perl
kernel
exim
ssh
ssl
.
.
.

So the main question is here that:

For which services do we really have to pay other than we can make/do/update via WHM?

Please regard server uptime, monitoring, backup etc.

Thanks again!!

WHM/CPanel comes with a script that you can run at regular intervals that will check with the DarkOrb servers for new RPMs of basic back-end stuff to patch security holes, but you'll have to get and run buildapache.sea to update Apache/PHP.

However, between the time when the exploit is posted and the DarkOrb team gets the patched RPM's up, WHM isn't very useful for applying workarounds other than turning off the affected service completely.

Kernel upgrades you'll still have to do yourserlf.
