Hello,

I'm looking to purchase an SSL certificate, and am wondering where to go for one. Namecheap or Godaddy? The difference? Is there specific thing to look for when buying an SSL?

As well, I'm unfamiliar with the procedure of applying the SSL certificate to my domain and to make my website works with https:// as this is my first time. Could anyone walk me through or point me to a guide?

Thank you!

I would recommend Comodo actually. Which SSL (http://www.whichssl.com/) might help you a little as well.

You need to look at what SSL certs are trusted by your browser automatically. For example, you can get a free cert from cacert.org but that root certification might not be trusted. But you can say that you trust the certs from cacert and your session will be secure if you are in https://.

If you are on IE 7.0, go to Tools - Internet Options. In content tab, look at Certificates. Now take a look at the Trusted Root Certification Authorities. You can get a good idea from there on which ones you might want to get

I have to recommend Namecheap. Their support is second-to-none and the rates are very competitive.

I've tried other places, as well as Godaddy, but I'm going to be buying my domains with Namecheap in the future.

If it's specifically only Namecheap and Godaddy, I would recommend you Namecheap. I've several SSL certs with Namecheap for close to a year now and so far I've encountered no problems. In terms of support, you will receive a much prompt response from Namecheap then in comparison with Godaddy.
