View Full Version : ASP.net 3.5 / ISAPI-Rewrite / msSQL shared hosting needed

Hello,

Since about 2002 I have constantly had my own co-located and then dedicated box. Before that, the only paid host I ever used was verio.net. Now that I sold off most of my sites, it is time to move to a smaller, shared hosting plan.

My question is can anyone suggest a good hosting plan? I do not need a lot of space or bandwidth, but I do require a few things:

- ASP.net 3.5 is a huge plus, but 2.0 is do-able
- At least one msSQL database
- Daily backups is also a huge plus. I don't need this second, but eventually I will want it.
- Good technical support is a must. I have dealt with to many companies even with my dedicated hosting that offered horrible tech support. A three day wait on a question is not acceptable. Phone support is a plus, but a 24 hour reply on an email is enough.
- ISAPI-Rewrite, or an equivalent is a must. I rewrite my URL's for SE rankings, as I believe everyone should, so the ability to host a rewrite script is a must. Though I use ISAPI-Rewrite, if their is an equivalent that is do-able.
- Need to be able to run at least (2) domains. My main company domain and then a second domain which is basically a landing page. In future I need a 3rd domain added, so ability to upgrade or add on a domain cheaply is a must too.

If you own a hosting company that matches this, or can suggest any please do so. If you suggest and they offer a referral program feel free to let me know your referral code as you obviously deserve the credit for suggesting the company.

Thank you so much in advance,

Anthony, most hosting Windows based hosting companies should be able to meet your needs. As for the rewrite support, the company I'm with actually uses the IIRF Isapi Filter. It's free and works great. See if you can get the company decide to go with to install that as I know a lot of them don't offer ISAPI Rewrite.

Here's the link to the filter I was talking about:

I imagine MOSSO would work for you. I don't know if they support ISAPI rewrite, but they can run both Windows and Linux stuff and they do support mod_rewrite. If you're looking for cheap though, they probably won't work, they're around $100 per month plus a bit more depending on the size of your MS SQL database.

Thanks for the input, but my dedicated box alone was only 130 and was a really good box. I'm looking more in the range of 20/month or less. I found alot of great options but the rewrite is a killer. I even have a license to it I would offer to give up if they would install it.

My current site right now is only about 25 mb's and I don't even use my DB so that isn't a huge issue I can always setup a second host when needing a db). I also only transfer less than a gig a month, if even near that . The re-write is the biggest issue of them all.

TechEvolution (http://www.techevolution.com/) might be able to offer you those as well. I am pretty sure some of my old clients were using that so he would need it for those.

ORCS Web (http://www.orcsweb.com/) would be another possibility as well. They are very lenient with what they will install and work very well with their customers. Their support is phenomenal.

reliablesite.net (http://www.reliablesite.net) (in my signature). They've been pretty good to me in the time I've been there, over 1 yr now.(Customer status verified :agree: )

CoderGuru,

Welcome to WHT Forums :)

Your Requirements are very do-able. ISAPI Rewrite isn't available on most windows hosting companies as its not a standard feature, but now with all the 3rd party addons being developed their its lots of different ISAPI Rewrite modules.

From experience I would recommend you look at ISAPI Rewrite by Helicon. About 18 months ago, i did several tests with different isapi rewrite dll's, and helicons was the only one that give me complete stability.

Hello Anthony,

Most Windows providers should be able to help w/ this for this price range. As noted, you should inquire re the available Rewrite options.

Best wishes.
