Hello,
After reading the posts that people ask for advice and really seeing how kind most the people are on this board to other hosts, I feel like i'd be cheating myself if I didn't go and ask for advice.

I am considering going with Mzima Networks for my colocation.. they run 3 providers. Cogent, Genuity, and Verio.

I am not sure if I am allowed to post the link to their site, but if im not please tell me or a mod just edit it out please. http://www.mzimanetworks.com

Their pricing is fair (cheap).. I'm just mainly asking about their network and reliability, and what you guys think of the providers.

From what I was told by them, 40% of the traffic goes out cogent, 40% out Verio, and the other 20% out Genuity.

How does it sound as far as performance/reliability?

Thanks so much!

$32 per 1u of space + $100 for 1 meg of bw (~325 gigs)

no setup fee.

That's pretty good, but as always I'd suggest you ask on this forum to see if anyone can beat it; I'm sure they can! :)

They can tell you anything they want, but how do you check for it without looking at their router/switch's MRTG? I am guessing they directing traffic mostly to cogent, for the price you mention.

I have never heard about the company, but good luck with your venture :)

That's a good point.. I'm really looking for something east coast since I live in NJ. This place is in california.. :(..

But if the network is good.. I'm all for it..

My main concerns are this:

#1 I can't afford to pay alot, but at the same time I don't want to go cheap and get bad service.. my business is my life to me, I gave up everything to try and make it on my own.. I have to treat it like the closest thing to my heart

#2 I don't think its preferred to colocate with somebody who does web hosting... atleast not soley.. I'd rather not go there, but input on that is welcome.

#3 Bandwidth.. I want quality bandwidth.. I wouldn't go with just cogent, i've heard quite a bit of bad things about hosts that just use cogent (False or not?).. I guess part of that comes from people requesting websites that don't use cogent.

Thanks for everyone's time on this.

They are using the LA data center of Pihana Pacific. Certainly have impressive traceroutes and pings. Suspect using multi-carriers on ingoing (I get BBN and Verio) and Cogent on outgoing primarily.

An impressive new LA data center, seems worth a look to me, although I know nothing about mzima.

Well the graphs show a pretty balanced outgoing, unless you think they are misleading somehow?

And nothing wrong with outgoing Cogent....in fact, at the right data center, nothing wrong with Cogent, period, when you have other carriers also available. But as a good businessman, I am sure they are planning to use Cogent very heavily for outgoing traffic.....the best of all worlds-low price of Cogent, backed up by other top quality carriers.

So you guys think that going there doesn't seem "Ghetto" so to say?

Like I said I care about my business alot..

I don't want to go lame on it, I just want to have a network behind me that I can be proud of.. something that can't be looked down upon when people think of my company.. I can provide great support and make people happy, but if the network is garbage, all the smiles in the world from me won't leave a customer happy.
