Looked at it and it appears to provide great performance. But they are attempting to restrict content so until they reconsider that there is no chance I'm going to use it.

They just restrict porn.

I ran it on my dedicated server and my current host runs it with shared hosting. \

The ups is that its an amazing piece of software.

The downs is that its content restrictive and costs lots of money,

They just restrict porn.

Porn now who knows what it'll be later on. They are the only web server I know of that tries to tell you what content is acceptable.

What about that Nginx server that's been churned up just recently as well? Seems to offer some pretty impressive benchmarks

Here's the URL.. Don't see it discussed at WHT very much:

I use nginx to proxy back to a bunch of mongrel clusters (Rails & Merb).

It's _fast_. Really fast. I'd say faster than lighttpd (and doesn't seem to leak memory like lighttpd).

It has a lot of customization. Downside is it only recently (a year or two) came into the 'English' world, so a lot of the docs are still in Russian.

Still, a great lightweight server.

I use it on my dedicated server, memory consumption has decreased dramatically. The only con is that it's expensive. :(

What? It's a web server. We run it on numerous systems and we run whatever content we wish.

so you couldnt even for proxy hosting as your clients visitors may be attempting to acess porn through the proxy.

that aspect and the price for the license and the fact it increases per core is pretty rediculous actually

Why do you all keep mentioning porn. It's a software product, you can use it for whatever you want. It sits on *your* server.

Superfluous. It's running on your server, do what you want with it.

With respect, no legal counsel will ever support or even consider that line of thinking.

Anybody who runs a business has to be aware of the implications of his/her actions - down the line there may be different pressures, or there may be great scrutiny of the company (for example in a merger/acquisition).

I agree with the spirit of what you are saying, but that isn't an advised way for anybody running a business to act. Not sure if you run your own business (looks from your other posts that you play an important role in it) - but if you do, then it makes sense to exercise greater caution - and take the right risks, not the unnecessary ones.

I'm not really worried about anything legal counsel says. If Litespeed tries to tell me what to do other than when and where to make my payments they'll lose a reseller with numerous licenses under their belt.

The odds are pretty clear how that will play out.

Understand where you're coming from

For hosting company not targeting porn, just generic web hosting, there should not much to worry about. Even in case that our EULA do being violated, we will contact you first to have it resolved in stead of revoking the license immediately. We do appreciate the opportunity to have your business, but we do not like some other companies who can do anything regardless just for making money.

Above is from the same forum thread I quoted before [emphasis added]. One may not agree with their views, but one respects the quoted approach if their actions are consistent with it.

So does that mean Litespeed considers companies who post porn desperate? If the content is legal it shouldn't matter to them.

I am really surprised at their stance.

That's a really interesting stance you're taking and I applaud you for that. But it's not something most of us would do. We'd rather just not deal with them at all if they want to be content restrictive.

Agreed.

Why use their software if you do not agree with their policies?

Time is money and I save a lot of it by not worrying about silly matters like this.
