I'm wondering if it is the norm for hosting companies to disable certain features in control panels (in my case CPanel and WHM)that would seem useful.

Recently my host has disabled deleteing accounts in WHM. Also they have disable editting packages in WHM and subdomain stats in CPanel.

Is my host being overly secure or is this a trend among hosting companies?

If I can have these features with another hosting company, I'd like to change.

If you are selling your bulk space, I really don't see why they would feel you shouldnt be allowed those options.

If you're serious about moving, you should post in the requests forum.

I believe the edit a package feature was removed in one of the cpanel updates ( unfortunately ). As for the other, you might want to contact your provider and as them to replace the feature.

Edit: WOOHOO!! 1000 POSTS!

It's standard for a reseller to be able to create their own hosting packages and all other features such as deleting/adding accounts, subdomains, email accounts, etc in WHM. If your Host is not providing it or disable certain features such as SSH which is very important for a reseller, then it's better to look for a new Host in my opinion.

As a reseller, I believe you should have some special privilege to move around the server and be able to use most of the features in WHM to manage your clients.

Also look for Hosts that offer unlimited Domains,emails,sub-domains, MySql, etc, etc. for some assurance/guarantee so the Host will not limit your growth or placed too much restrictions for your reseller account although most will limit your bandwidth/webspace.

In the latest update of WHM, a few of the reseller features were moved. If you host, is not completely aware of hte new postion of things in the reseller center, they may be unaware that you don't have the access.

I do understand the SSH blocking though, SSH IMO should be an option, not an automatic, everything else should be fine though.

Reference to my above post regarding SSH enable for your reseller account, if the Host don't want to enable it for your account, it's probably they are hiding alot of happenings on the server for example overselling and many others that you can detect only with SSH access to your Host's server.

That, and maybe because they are too lazy to learn enough about security so that SSH can run on their servers without fear. To me, hosting is just incomplete without SSH.

Speaking personally here (not advertiseing) we dont automatically enable SSH. It WILL be enabled if the customer emails us and tells us why they want it. If they say "oh just to play because I'm not sure what it does" then it wont happen, butif they say something like "we want to tranfer databases or domain via SSH" then fine no problem.
