I know, to some of you this may sound crazy or so but I am looking to run an web hosting business, non-profit one. Something like, offering certain web sites holders free quality web hostign no ads but not becoming an web hosting provider. Maybe I'm not making sense so here is once more. An example: having your own reseller web hosting account and offer your friends web hosting for no fee but not oferring to just every and everyone. Which provider might fit my needs, something not expensive!?

Hmm...
Thats kinda hard. all depends how much clients you will have,
You could get a small account and not be enough, or get a big one and it be too much.

What is your business model? Non profit business still needs to cover their overheads. Maybe you can put some ads etc in the controlpanel to cover back the costs, but that seemed tough.

How come you say that could work. Its not so simple to setup as well as talking on revenues, i doubt it would.

I am sure the OP has thought about costs and that its his pocket that will get lighter. I am intruged, we get at least oh, hundreds of these posts every month wanting to setup free services but of course when they spammers run you ragged you might think again ;)

The money is not that of a problem. That's why I informed that the non-oprofit will be mostly for certian website that will meet certain criterias. There will be no ads or anything like that. In offering a free service I believe that if you keep medium to high sites then things should not be problematic. I have other ways to cover-up the costs. As I mentioned, I intended to start hosting friends sites and move on, no posts required no anything special. Others helped me in the past with free services and I think that I should help some too once in a while.

That's not called a nonprofit business, it's called charity.

Whatever may be called, to me is non-profit as long as there is no profit.

So will you provide after-sales support to those non-profit clients? You might change your mind when you have "clients" harassing you for support when they didn't pay a cent for the service.

If I were you, I would start a "normal" web hosting business (ie taking money for the services you provide), and on the side offer the free one for which only those who have met your conditions could benefit. Only this way would the service be a lasting one.

You could probably run on non-profit if you found "some" way to make profit.

There are donations that would do well.

Of course you won't want to be offering tons of space and bandwidth, so you could potentially run off your own VPS, something that you know you can afford and that donations would continue to come and support your business.

But I think it's a great idea :)
