Hi,

I need some advice.
I have a client who has just signed up, His details in my system are diffrent to both his domains whois details and his paypal details.

I realy need this client as he is on the most expensive plan, and I also have been having trouble getting clients.

What should I do?

Thanks in advance

... he is on the most expensive plan ...That's generally what fraudsters order. ;)

What should I do?I think you know what you 'should' do.

Have you tried telephoning him?

Experience in ordering speaks here.:stickout:

Back to topic

1. Make a call to his phone number.
2. Verify his identity with paypal.
3. You must have his IP address, just look where it is from and match with his paypal details.

IP's all add up,
Papal account is verified
Should I call the number on file with paypal or the one he used to sign up with?

Use the one he signed up with as it was just a short while ago it should be current.

Its the name not the address.

But the paypal details match the Domain details...

You don't want to loose the customer right! Go aHead and setup and account. If its fake then you would come to know in some time, but if it is a client then its good for business.:)

Most of the time , its fake client trying to get access to the server for some time.

Did you verify his signUP IP address to his paypal A/c?

If it is different, then its mostly a fake a client.

All seems fine,
It only cost him €0.10, because it was on sale.

The thing im getting confused about now is that the papal details and the domain details are the same.

Just a word of advice...

I am glad to see that your being proactive in regards to a possible fraud order. Since your using paypal, I just wanted to make sure your aware if it is a fraud order and the actual card owner decides to do a chargeback (if paid with creditcard) you may also be charged a fee for the dispute. If its just a regular funds from the clients paypal account you will be able to dispute it and hopefully win. The other thing you may want to consider is adding fraud measures such as maxmind.

Yeah, im looking into agetting that now.

I just created the account, if it is fake its only 0.10 so i'll just refund it

Hello there :)
I red this thread last night :) and I did not pay attention to it, I was driving today, and my brother called me asking if I could buy to his friend a hosting service using my visa card, of course will do that using my paypal, it is very simple... I end the calland it came to me your thread :D how simple and easy matter to understand. I will use my paypal/visa card to buy a hosting service to someone else, I already bought to him before the domain name :) so domain will be the same as paypal infos, but I will add his infos in the hosting that I will buy ( so please advice me which one I am going to take:) ) => I will be in the same case as you have, right ?
So, think simple and do not make it too complicated that you could lose a good customer, if it is fraud, maybe you wont lose much, because you do not know the guy and yu did not get any complain so far :)
So, I left my car and came to my laptop to write for you this,
Good luck in your business and do not be too suspicious :)

You can never trust the WHOIS details, most of the time people may use a PO BOX or a different address so that they dont get bugged or may be stalked LOL.

But if what they give you while signing up does not match the paypal account then there might a cause for concern.

A way to avoid this is to always ask them for one address, the BILLING ADDRESS, and make sure you let them know while signing up that the address should match the paypal/cc.

Yeal, I'll edit the scripts to include a notice like that.

I'm not convinced. The way you initially described it, that sounds like a textbook fraud.

Nobody buys hosting for a friend. Thats just preposterous - yes, a situation might warrant it, but its still something you just don't "do".

That's awesome! An ounce of prevention.. I moderate all signups CC, paypal, check/mo.. None gets through without me talking to them first. Helps cut the fraud and plus I know who is on the server.

Actually I have done that many times. Just think about mom or dad or your cousin bilo who doesn't know anything about computers but wants to put up a photography site for some nature pictures he took.

Real story except his name wasn't Bilo. Because I work in technology I routinely get asked by everyone in my family and some outside of it to set things up for them so I do. It really isn't that strange.

Ive brought hosting for people before and I went quite well. I did it because my friend didnt have paypal and he needed to buy hosting, so I did it for him.

Nobody buys hosting for a friend.

I do it all the time, and apparently lots of other people do too, judging by some of the responses.

well ! you ashuld let him take a hosting ac but not a domain or ssl etc
u can always suspend hosting a/c if u findout he is fraud ... ? right ?

why worry ?
