Help me understand this.

Akamai sued Limelight because LLNW infringed 2 of Akamai's patents. And Akamai won. This is NOT the first time Akamai won a lawsuit against a company they claimed to have infringed their patents.

Both patents state how Akamai actually does their CDN. But it seems kinda absurd, or so I think, because its like Rackspace suing InetU or Navisite for providing managed services. Or SoftLayer suing ThePlanet for providing dedicated servers.

There are many CDN's out there, aren't all of them vulnerable to Akamai's wrath?

I can't seem to find a whole lot of information about this case. All I found were jury documents. Can you provide us with an article?

I find this lawsuit fuzzy as well. What exactly did Akamai sue for?

Well shoot, it might be time to throw some more money at LLNW

There are 2 CDN's that have been around since 1997...Mirror Image and Akamai..both have patents on their technology (not a coincidence). Akamai seems to wait until a competitor becomes too annoying and then sues them. Same thing happened with Spedera which was eventually Aquired. LLNW looks headed toward a similar fate.

I fail to understand how these very broad patents get agreed.

Very much agreed. It's pretty much anti-competition. There has to be laws against such broad patents.

This is seriously disgusting, they are creating a monopoly.

It was not that long ago when C&W (Digital Island) sued Akamai and won. Did not seem to hurt Akami too bad or Help Digital Island too much. Savvis then sold DI to Level3

When the law does not work in your favor, move (eg. Cryptologic, ticker: CRYP)
