View Full Version : Is there anything I can do?

A site got deleted for spamming. Now they have set up the same site on various free hosts and they send out spam to promote it and use my domain in the from/reply to area. Revenge I am sure.

I know it is easy enough to see in the full headers that I didn't actually send it, so I am not worried about that part, other than the complaints I have to reply to about it.

The worst part is that every message that bounces because it is an invalid address or full box or whatever bounces back to me and that is a HUGE pita. Is there any way to stop this happening other than to only receive mail addressed to specified addresses at my domain? They continue to make up new usernames for the domain, so setting it up to block to a certain username is not a great method. Reporting them has been useless too since they just keep packing up and moving elsewhere.

Any ideas?

How about directing email to unknown users to /dev/null? In postfix, look at the luser_relay setting. :)

Oh, sorry, you were asking for solutions OTHER than that one. Duh, sorry. Why didn't I see that until right AFTER I hit the post button.

I have the same problem for one domain.
It wouldn't be soooo bad; but they always use the purchase@, info@, and sales@ kind of addresses that you need to have.

And like Hiccups said; it isn't the answering of inquiring minds, but rather all the emails that are bounced back that create a problem.

Well, take those emails and fwd them to the sites who are hosting them. They'll keep on runing, but they'll learn not to use you as their "reply" address. YOU have their information right? Well use it against them. Make a report to your AG office and check what spam laws exist in your state. It can fall under harassment.

Good advice.
