I have experimented with SPAM ASSASIGN, and don't see this as being very usefull. It marks very important emails as SPAM, and the criteria it is using to flag SPAM is up for debate.
I assume SPAM ASSASIGN is not editable (without programming)?
Any suggestions for a SPAM filter where you would be able to set more specific criteria?
Thanks...

Outlook express --> Tools ---> Message rules ---> mail :)
No system is perfect though. Blocking a spammers email address is bull because they often use random created addresses.
Blocking all email with "credit" in the subject also blocked the msg from the datacenter that my creditcard was about to expire.
The only thing that does seem to work is block emails with the word "loan" or mortgage" in the subject.
Because a) I have no loan and b) I have no mortgage :D
I assume SPAM ASSASIGN is not editable (without programming)? My experience with SpamAssassin (http://www.spamassassin.org) is that it is highly configurable and you have many options for making it work.
The question is: who installed it? Your host or yourself?
If you have control over the config files you can set the flags to just about anything you like. If you are finding that it is flagging important emails then you may want to make it less strict and/or set it to a negative amount of points for words/phrases you would like to have it not flag. You may also want to set up a whitelist in it.
You may even opt to have it delete spam rather than flag and deliver it..or to forward the spam to a different email account --- many many options are available with SA if you have it under your control.
If on the other hand it's under your host's control, you may want to contact them pointing out some emails it has flagged that it shouldn't have so that they may fine tune it for better results.

spamassassin is EXTREMELY useful if you configure it properly
currently between mail scanner and spam assassin we have blocked... 1123 (and counting) spam and virus emails since 8/3
edit the confs to actually delete or quarantine the emails, not just flag them.

An alternative is to use a vetting program like "MAILWASHER". It is excellent and free!. Fully configurable.http://www.mailwasher.net :)

CPanel has spam program but it was useless for my case. It would still email me telling me spam was received. It missed the mail that I didnt want to see and captured other email. I finally turned it off and started using the CPanel mail block. No problems after that..just a nasty bounce back to the senders.

That's probably what you needed to use in the first place. I have no experience with Spam Assasin, and don't know why anyone would need it. C Panel's email filter gives you the most control over spam than any control panel out there! ...and that is one of the reasons I like C Panel. It allows you to block spam by address, or by word in the body or subject. That seems pretty thorough to me.
Also, I doubt if the original poster had access to change Spam Assasin's set-up; and their host may not be willing to do it. If that is the case, just use C Panel's regular email filter. It's one of the best!
