Deb Suran 03-08-2001, 07:06 PM We just left one (GSP, a reseller for iServer, which is a Verio host). Our virtual server was very slow, and I've heard this same complaint from others who use them. But they are powerful and give you a lot of control. We also had intermittant problems with the Verio network -- members of our Forum in various parts of the country (and the world) would report that they couldn't get to our server on an intermittant basis, and it happened to me, too. Verio always tried to blame it on my ISP, which made no sense. We left because support at GSP went to hell, and because we had outgrown shared hosting. We would've put off moving if we'd been happier with tech support, which was fantastic for the first 18 of the 24 months we were with them. If you need speed, don't go with Verio. SI-Chris 03-08-2001, 07:28 PM Ditto to what Deb said about iServer--I had a "virtual server" there and the servers *and* the network were slow (I only lasted a few weeks there, and they were honest enough to refund my money). I also had a virtual server with vServers (http://www.vservers.com); it servered up plain HTML pages okay, but the server was extremely slow when trying to run any kind of cgi application. One of their included extras on your account was a Web-based e-mail application, and it would literally take mintues to go between pages. Also ditto to what Deb said about the features--both iServer and vServers had a great control panel, with lots of features and control. However if I remember correctly their multi-domain accounts were around $99/month, and for that price you could get a *real* dedicated server. bilgehan 03-08-2001, 08:27 PM I hosted my site first with communitech.net. I had lots of problems with the cold fusion server there and then I moved to tristar ultra plan. it was a virtual server account. in the first three months I was very satisfied with the service they provided. the server was fast and tech support was quick. but then there has been some new arrangements at tristarweb. Since then my site has became down very frequently. Tech support isn't as quick as before. I will change my hosting firm. What do you offer ? I need cold fusion,mySql,php and sub-domain support.
