Here is a question to get feedback.

Who uses or has used GoDaddy for Domain Registration and what is your opinion?

1. I have used them a couple of times and found their Domain Phone Support fast.

2. Transfers out have been smooth.

3. Domain Control panel very functional but too many other products pushed during domain registration would be a negative.

4. Need to be careful since you can get more options added to your bill in transfer or registration process.

5. Big company so how about security..? Less chance of a buy-out and problems that result..?

I use GoDaddy because they have the best control panel for managing multiple domains.

1. I've only used their phone support once. For an overseas call, I thought the phone call took too long to resolve. But it did get resolved satisfactorily.

2. You can transfer out of GoDaddy in about 1 hour by authorizing the transfer. Domain gets deleted too. Unlike many other registrars where you have to raise a support ticket to get the domain deleted from your account.

3. See my opening comment. I agree they try to sell you a lot of unnecessary stuff upon checkout but once you get used to that you can skip right past it. A lot of other registrar do this too. 1 thing I don't like about their checkout is you have to click on checkout twice on 2 different pages to complete the purchase.

4. I've never encountered that. Ever. Unless you deliberately accept something they are offering. Or don't change the 2yr registration to 1yr.

5. Big company. Probably safe. But have they ever made a profit yet? IPO got put on hold last year.

You have to be aware of the draconian ToS. They WILL suspend your domain for reported spam, phishing, wrong Whois info, even if it turns out to be untrue. You WILL have to pay $10 to reinstate your domain. Just so long as you are mindful of that, you'll be OK. I've been with them for about 3 years and have 3K+ domains there. I've been charged exactly $10 in all that time because somebody complained about my whois. I got that back by charging him more for the domain he was interested in buying ;)

GoDaddy's interface is the most confusing and unintelligent thing imaginable. It reminds me of 1995.

1. It is extremely fast for the nameservers to update.
2. Great domain management control panel.
3. Great prices and deals :)

I find GoDaddy to be a great registrar. They even called me the day after I bought my domain to see if I needed any assistance with it! That is what I call a good registrar.

I agree... been with them and many others for many years now... godaddy is tops... matter of fact, I always end up moving domains from other companies to put into godaddy when they are about to expire.

I've always thought the layout of godaddy to be a big plus... their ui works for me....

Plumsauce. That is not a domain related issue. It's a hosting related issue.

Just to add to my OP.

I use them ONLY for domain registration.

I use three Registrars at this time:
1. GoDaddy :)
2. SRSPlus :agree:
3. StarGate/US2Net :(

I am looking at Name and eNom for some options.

However, at this time I favor SRSPlus and GoDaddy is looking very good.

As for StarGate/US2Net I am disappointed in the services since the takeover. Thus I am moving my domains...

I keep my hosting and domains registrars in separate companies.. Safety and peace of mind for me...

Yep. That's exactly the kind of examples you need to be aware of. But if you keep your nose clean, you mostly won't have anything to worry about.

GoDaddy CP is OK for multiple names, but it is very slow

They are cheap, and I really like their control panel.

However you hear of GoDaddy horror stories from time to time, whereby GoDaddy shut off a website (via their domain, even if the website isn't hosted at GoDaddy) because one person submitted a complaint (even if unfounded).

Just Google "ratemycop" as a quick example of this.

It's for this reason that I just moved $5k's worth of domains (market value, not reg fee value ;)) out of GoDaddy (to Moniker).

Moniker's really good :) And for security they're the best (they've never ever lost a domain).

i have been using them since the beginning and have registered hundreds of names there without any probs ever... i use them only for regsitrar service/backorders, not for hosting (just because i dont register/host in same place - never a good idea)Definitely recommended.
