AIM as in AOL? tzdesigner 08-16-2002, 06:08 PM AOl Instant Messagener Its a seperate chating program that lets you talk to aim users and aol users. InterServ-JB 08-16-2002, 06:09 PM Try using AIM EXPRESS if you are scared about the CPU. flitcher 08-16-2002, 07:03 PM Sounds like Microsoft is still mad at AOL for switching their internal browser to Netscape, hehe. You can use AIM on your computer, I have plenty of friends who are on XP with AIM. Rochen 08-16-2002, 07:23 PM I am running AIM on XP without any problems :) tzdesigner 08-16-2002, 07:33 PM Ok thx for the help. Its just a new cpu and I wanna be very careful what goes on it :) phatronic 08-16-2002, 07:36 PM i`m on XP, no problem here, but maybe AIM is a spyware, who knows :D tzdesigner 08-16-2002, 07:51 PM probley is because its free, but then again it adds to why people might stay on AOL. So people with cable or a different ISP can still talk to AOL Members. Who knows bobcares 08-17-2002, 06:05 AM Try removing XP. Install Redhat 7.3 and use Kopete... :) Kopete is an integrated IM for AIM, MSN, ICQ , Jabber , IRC ...... Have a great day regards amar dynamitehost 08-17-2002, 06:55 AM http://www.trillian.cc MSN, ICQ, AIM, Yahoo and IRC all in one program :) Its decent, trust me :) I use win xp and have no problems with it.... zRedDice 08-17-2002, 08:37 AM Agreed. Trillian is the best. :) - James tazzy 08-17-2002, 09:12 AM Trillian is very good for me, had problems with it really. I uninstalled ICQ and AIM when i got trillian, but have kept MSN + Yahoo installed for personal use :D Tux-e-do 08-17-2002, 09:40 AM Originally posted by bobcares Try removing XP. It is also essential that you download a nice skin or two :D mahinder 08-18-2002, 12:18 AM Originally posted by dynamitehost http://www.trillian.cc MSN, ICQ, AIM, Yahoo and IRC all in one program :) Its decent, trust me :) I use win xp and have no problems with it.... now days trillian won't work with AIM. AIM sends upgrade0000 buddy list which crashes trillian :( shaunewing 08-18-2002, 12:42 AM Originally posted by mahinder now days trillian won't work with AIM. AIM sends upgrade0000 buddy list which crashes trillian :( I've been using Trillian on the AIM network for a long time now and have never experienced the problem you describe. The only issue I have is that it keeps saying I have AOL email when I don't have an AOL account and never have (and as far as I know they don't provide email addresses to AIM users that aren't AOL members). --Shaun phpcoder 08-18-2002, 01:53 AM Yeppers, I also run XP with AIM :D btw, Trillian has a nice backdoor ;) Acroplex 08-18-2002, 03:01 AM I hope it doesn't have a P4 :D skylab 08-18-2002, 04:04 AM Originally posted by mahinder now days trillian won't work with AIM. AIM sends upgrade0000 buddy list which crashes trillian :( funny, i just logged into AIM with trillian right when i read your post, and have been logging into AIM with trillian with no problems since the last time there was a few days of official blockage from AOL. but yeah, so many people are quick to say there is a problem with the whole client when it's an isolated error. mikeknoxv 08-18-2002, 11:54 AM AIM works fine on XP. If you want to get rid of the AIM banners, get better logging, and be able to clone AIM, get AIM+ (http://www.big-o-software.com/) ET PhoneHome 08-18-2002, 12:45 PM maybe im dumb but can someone explain 2 me how a program like aim could mess up the cpu? mikeknoxv 08-18-2002, 01:01 PM I don't think it really could. Probably just a stupid rumor... bobcares 08-18-2002, 01:30 PM It is the way programs are written. In my early days I once wrote screensaver on VB 3 and it kept crashing my system till I realized that VB is not my cup of tea to I came back to Linux with c ... Actually we can't blame the OS. It is the way we write the programs that matter. May the AIM for XP has a problem (not sure as I have not touched win for ages)... skylab 08-18-2002, 01:39 PM could be they meant CPU as in the old end-user "cpu" meaning, the big box where everything happens. ??? i dunno. on the subject of trillian. does anyone think that 1.0 will be pay per use? or, a basic shareware version + a pay version with more features? hopefully the donators get something out of it if they go that route. whichever, i just hope 1.0 comes out soon! |
