I just bought a new pc with windows xp and I really want to put AIM on it but am not sure if I should. I heard it could mess up the cpu on XP. Does anyone have suggestions. I need to know ASAP. Thanks :)

Its a seperate chating program that lets you talk to aim users and aol users.

Try using AIM EXPRESS if you are scared about the CPU.

Sounds like Microsoft is still mad at AOL for switching their internal browser to Netscape, hehe. You can use AIM on your computer, I have plenty of friends who are on XP with AIM.

I am running AIM on XP without any problems :)

i`m on XP, no problem here, but maybe AIM is a spyware, who knows :D

probley is because its free, but then again it adds to why people might stay on AOL. So people with cable or a different ISP can still talk to AOL Members. Who knows

Try removing XP. Install Redhat 7.3 and use Kopete... :)
Kopete is an integrated IM for AIM, MSN, ICQ , Jabber , IRC ......

Trillian is very good for me, had problems with it really.

I uninstalled ICQ and AIM when i got trillian, but have kept MSN + Yahoo installed for personal use :D

i'm on xp with aim, no problems here either.

I'm on XP with AIM -- no problem either -- had it on there for the last year..

i'm on xp with trillian, aim, yahoo, msn, icq, jabber, odigo, and everymessage (or something) and they all work fine with XP. maybe i'm just lucky.

but for real, you can't beat trillian.

Trillian is too confusing

Just play around with it (trillian) for a while ands you will figure it out. It is also essential that you download a nice skin or two :D

now days trillian won't work with AIM. AIM sends upgrade0000 buddy list which crashes trillian :(

I've been using Trillian on the AIM network for a long time now and have never experienced the problem you describe.

The only issue I have is that it keeps saying I have AOL email when I don't have an AOL account and never have (and as far as I know they don't provide email addresses to AIM users that aren't AOL members).

funny, i just logged into AIM with trillian right when i read your post, and have been logging into AIM with trillian with no problems since the last time there was a few days of official blockage from AOL.

but yeah, so many people are quick to say there is a problem with the whole client when it's an isolated error.

AIM works fine on XP.
If you want to get rid of the AIM banners, get better logging, and be able to clone AIM, get AIM+ (http://www.big-o-software.com/)

It is the way programs are written. In my early days I once wrote screensaver on VB 3 and it kept crashing my system till I realized that VB is not my cup of tea to I came back to Linux with c ...
Actually we can't blame the OS. It is the way we write the programs that matter. May the AIM for XP has a problem (not sure as I have not touched win for ages)...

could be they meant CPU as in the old end-user "cpu" meaning, the big box where everything happens. ???

does anyone think that 1.0 will be pay per use? or, a basic shareware version + a pay version with more features?

hopefully the donators get something out of it if they go that route. whichever, i just hope 1.0 comes out soon!
