I suppose the title is a bit deceiving.. I'm not looking for a solution to process credit cards, but rather the best way for visitors to enter their credit card info in a form (along with their other info). I assume it needs to be secure in some way. Can anyone suggest something, either a script or product or website that can help
Cheers.

I dont think most CC companies allow you to store that kind of info... I may be wrong but I think I have read that there needs to be more safeguards other than just an ssl

The best way would be to use SSL. Otherwise, if the user is on a public network, their data can be easily captured as they submit it.

What is this information needed for? You can only use a credit card number to charge against it - you cannot use it for any type of verification, especially age.
For example, you can only display the MasterCard logo for only certain purposes
No member may place or cause to be placed on any MasterCard card or any MasterCard card acceptance device any information, applications, or products that would in any way, directly or indirectly, diminish or devalue the brand, impair or discourage acceptance or use of MasterCard cards, products, or services, or impair any aspect of MasterCard transactions or network infrastructure. MasterCard shall have the right, in its sole discretion, in the event of violation of this rule, to require and enforce the immediate removal of such information, application, or products, and to impose a monetary penalty within the framework of MasterCard rules. No member may engage in or support any activity that is illegal, that may, in the opinion of MasterCard, damage the good will of MasterCard, or reflect negatively on the MasterCard brand. A member that engages in repeated or multiple violations of this Standard or other Standards may be subject to sanctions in addition to those that may be provided for a specific violation of a Standard.
So just consider how MasterCard considers a member displaying their logo. For more information Use on Web Sites (MasterCard (http://www.mastercardbrandcenter.com/us/howtouse/amu_websites.shtml). MasterCard even has an acceptance marks (indicate acceptance of our payment brands) and brand marks (market or promote our products and programs.
Now, if you think you will never have a need to have a merchant account - you could possibly consider asking people to enter their credit card numbers. Because otherwise, asking people to enter a credit card number without having the need to charge them - you can end up of the TMF / MATCH list and possibly find it difficult to get a merchant account.

if you are using a form you would have to use SSL. Have you considered using Google check out?

You can check out 2checkout.com. During payments, your customers will be diverted to their secure site and they can enter their CC information safely. I've been using them for more than 2 years now and I must say other than a few hiccups, they are absolutely worth it for your business.

Security is a big issue in credit card processing, today.
The best way to secure your clients information is by not storing it on your PC/Servers. You need to configure your gateway to automatically take in clients information off your web site and send it to your merchant processing company instead of your PC.
SSL Cert will secure the page and send encrypted data to your PC/Server, it will not help you keep information secure.
Hope this helps, and if there is anything you need to know- let us know.
