![]() | View Full Version : Hurricane Electric or Internap? winner 08-16-2002, 12:48 PM which isp is considered better? tnx Andrew 08-16-2002, 12:56 PM The major drawback of HE is that they are generally considered 'spam friendly', so you might have some mail trouble. Other than that they are supposedly excellent in the uptime/reliability department. I've never heard anything bad about Internap. winner 08-16-2002, 01:04 PM tnx a lot lightnin :) and did u here about NETMAR? how r they? tnx Andrew 08-16-2002, 01:09 PM All I know of Netmar is what I've read here, that they are basically a family run business. Never seen a complaint about them. Personally, I'd choose one of the other two you're considering (I assume fastservers and hostmania are what you're thinking of) over Netmar, but that's really from my being unfamilliar with Netmar as a company. FHDave 08-16-2002, 01:39 PM Definitely InterNAP! InterNAP clients such as American Airlines, NasDaq, etc will at least hint you the reasons why you should also pick InterNAP. Besides, InterNAP has connectivity to nine major tier one backbone provider, and HE might only have several. Another reasons, HE is only in California whereas InterNAP is in multiple cities in US, Japan, and Europe. Can't compare :) TimPD 08-16-2002, 01:48 PM InterNAP is excellent. We currently use them. :). netacore 08-16-2002, 01:58 PM Hurricane has exchange points in CA, IL, NY and VA Originally posted by FHDave Another reasons, HE is only in California whereas InterNAP is in multiple cities in US, Japan, and Europe. Abby 08-16-2002, 03:13 PM I can't really compare the two, but my experiences with Hurricane were wonderful. Very reliable. xirus 08-16-2002, 05:15 PM I heard from an ex-HE.net employee that they are having financial problems. make your decision wise. netacore 08-16-2002, 05:19 PM Xirus, Without any solid facts or numbers, you should not a post a comment like that. FDrive 08-16-2002, 05:46 PM Originally posted by netacore Xirus, Without any solid facts or numbers, you should not a post a comment like that. My thoughts exactly. HE has been going strong since when, 1995? Unless I see some hard data proving otherwise, I'm not going to worry about it. Just the other day I heard my first HE radio ad. They have an awesome network. (Of course, my opinion of their network is biased because their gigE line comes straight to PAIX, appoximate 3/4 of a mile away from me :)) ReliableServers 08-16-2002, 06:26 PM Originally posted by xirus I heard from an ex-HE.net employee that they are having financial problems. make your decision wise. Maybe strapped for cash as they have been expanding, new facility, new locations etc etc...but I doubt they are in any financial trouble. Then again.....you never know.... svdorr 08-16-2002, 06:42 PM Just a bit of info about Internap. http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/ticker/article.asp?Feed=PR&Date=20020730&ID=1819208&Symbol=US:INAP jayjay 08-16-2002, 07:07 PM InterNAP is excellent. We currently use them. Not really. You use hostmania which provides you "InterNAP bandwidth". You don't use InterNAP directly. From the title he's asking about Hurricane Electric which has a datacenter(s?) and InterNAP which has many. But I'm sure he's trying to decide over fastservers.net and hostmania.net. He didn't know exactly what he's asking, or maybe he is. So my comment doesn't really matter. But it's true. So now you and other hosts (directed at TimPD more so than anyone else.), can come off and not know much about what you do, and provide quality bandwidth at a cheap cost. Giving consumers a bad idea about InterNAP possibly. Because of your actions. I'm not saying everybody is going to do this, but a good percentage. multipleimage 08-17-2002, 11:09 PM he.net is great. I have used them before and we are currently considering using them again. fastservers_net 08-18-2002, 12:29 AM Originally posted by lightnin The major drawback of HE is that they are generally considered 'spam friendly', so you might have some mail trouble. Other than that they are supposedly excellent in the uptime/reliability department. I've never heard anything bad about Internap. I am going to have to chime in here and mention they are not SPAM Friendly at all, while they may be flexible this is due to the nature of hosting they are providing and after multiple discussions with them about the subject they give fair warning and do not tolerate SPAM. I personally have not dealt with InterNAP but will stand up and say HE.NET has excellent bandwidth, a great facility, and descent staff. The prices are a bit high if you co-locate with them directly though. multipleimage 08-18-2002, 11:13 AM There pricing is not that high if you have multiple servers and use a descent amount of bandwidth. But we are considering getting a ds3 to them. There rates for a ds3 are actually pretty reasonable. ForumsAddict 08-18-2002, 11:20 AM Well it all depends upon the recognition & past records of these ISPs. I think InterNap would be a good choice but the final decision is yours :D Happy Surfing TMX 08-18-2002, 02:51 PM Originally posted by ap_surge I am going to have to chime in here and mention they are not SPAM Friendly at all, while they may be flexible this is due to the nature of hosting they are providing and after multiple discussions with them about the subject they give fair warning and do not tolerate SPAM. I am going to have to chime right back :) and say that without a doubt, HE has been one of the most spam-tolerand / spam-friendly providers you will find on American soil. Their record of ignoring spam complaints while simultaneously allowing their spammers to go about their business unhindered is very well documented. They may say they're not spam-friendly, and their policies may prohibit spam, but their history says otherwise. -Bob |
