Now this is interesting. Being an ex MB client and thankfully one who sold of his license last year, i found it interesting the the boys at Modernbill have been concentrating on other things, apart from what they are known for.

It is a sad situation when companies forget their roots...

People get bored. People move on. That's life.
What I would prefer to see though, is that the MB founders put together a team (delegate) to manage the MB development, so they can do their new thing without letting the MB project suffer.

x2 for moving from mb to whmcs.. seemed much easier to change things on the fly and seemed quicker to pick up the more advanced functions.

Anyone still using ModernBill is on a sinking ship. The whole is not being plugged, and it's just a matter of time until it goes under.

We changed from Modernbill to WHMCS and all our problems have been solved. Especially the load of the server when you have more than 10.000 clients.

They should do themselfs a favor and sell the company before it falls to the floor. I'm sure their are many prospects that would be willing to sweep them up. I've seen this where owners try to multi-task many businesses and in hopes for a new venture they stop putting time and effort in the old business. After time(could be several years), the old business becomes worthless.

I just find it sad to see a company that lead its category not use its dominant position to strengthen its core business but instead proceed to thoroughly destroy its brand equity, product quality, and ultimately cede large chunks of market share to its competitors.
I think MB is still salvageable and there's some value left in the brand. So there's room for a turnaround, but I think it needs to be done under different management as its clear the company's focus hasn't been MB for a while. And considering the execution of MB5 thus far, I don't think current management would be capable of turning things around.
At least the DNZoom user interface looks a lot more streamlined than MB5. ;)

Who knows I'm sure it will be fine but the fact that it's run by two guys should be a warning to venture starters everywhere, have a team behind you before you decide to code something.
