I would be interested in offering Cold Fusion to virtual sites, but don't really know where to start...

I had a look on the macromedia site, but couldn't find that much information for hosts, as they seem to focus more on developers.

So what I would like to know is:

1. What's the most cost-effective way of buying a license?

2. Which kind of license do I need? (refer to above)

3. Is there much demand?

If this is in the wrong board... my apologies

If I'm not wrong CF license for linux its $8000.

I guess that it doesn't worth for a small host (like me).

Jorge,

If you say you are a small host may be I should be called a "tiny host"? :)

LOL, really, we are small, DTH host less than 1000 domains.
I think that everybody will considered it small according to a recent poll where most of host have at least 10 servers.

My apologies.. got a little distarcted by Mr.Catena :D

For myself, I dont know if there is sufficient demand for ColdFusion on Linux. There is a market for CF on Win2K but again it may not justify the investment

Software licence is pretty hefty

Roughly how much is the license and what are the terms?

If I were you, I'd give Macromedia sales a call, and tell them you're a medium sized Web host considering offering CF hosting on Linux -- hear what kind of deal they're willing to offer.

That sounds reasonable..

but as mentioned above, don't overestimate the need for it. Unless you're going to really push coldfusion hosting it might turn into a white elephant. In over two years of hosting I remember exactly two requests for it.

There may be a good market for it though. Might be worth putting some feelers out - maybe grab a reseller account with someone who does offer CF, and then move them onto your own servers once the numbers are up?
