Here's a question to all web hosting resellers:
How many clients should you have before you rent a dedicated server of your own?

Fred Sanders 02-27-2008, 01:42 AM Here's a question to all web hosting resellers: How many clients should you have before you rent a dedicated server of your own? adam 02-27-2008, 01:51 AM I think you should base your decision more on the resources those clients are using as well as projected growth rather then the number of clients. ManobanWeb 02-27-2008, 06:37 PM Well i moved to one after I got around 25 clients. Way better, more control and easier to manage InfiniteTech 02-27-2008, 11:38 PM When you are able to make a profit that is more than what your investing. If your VPS is 50 USD (+x other costs) and you make 60 USD (+x other costs) a month, then move to a dedicated. I for one feel that VPS isn't supposed to be used for production platforms. It should solely be used for testing purposes by developers. But thats just my opinion. Shaw Networks 03-01-2008, 01:53 AM Here's a question to all web hosting resellers: How many clients should you have before you rent a dedicated server of your own? If you are generating enough reveue to cover the dedicated server hosting fee and have the technical skillset necessary to properly manage the dedicated server, then make the switch as soon as possible. gate2vn 03-01-2008, 07:26 AM I don't remember how many customers I had at that time, but I moved to dedicated server when my 512MB RAM vps was not strong enough anymore. MikeDVB 03-01-2008, 08:41 AM Generally, I would make the move when your business model supports it. If you're making the cashflow to support the dedicated server, it's not a bad idea to move to it in order to offer the best quality service for your customers. Just make sure that you have the skills to manage it, or you get a managed solution. Dedicated is not necessarily a step up if it's not properly managed. aqns_hosting 03-02-2008, 07:09 PM Kepp the un-paying clients on a shared server... all paying clients (moe then 10) put them on a dedicated one hsphereclub 03-02-2008, 07:21 PM Here's a question to all web hosting resellers: How many clients should you have before you rent a dedicated server of your own? I would want enough clients to cover the cost of a dedi. Also if you no nothing or very little about managing a web server I would also get managed service. alfalogic 03-02-2008, 08:14 PM Can anyone tell exact benefits of dedicated server rather than a simple reseller account? Thanks hsphereclub 03-02-2008, 08:18 PM Can anyone tell exact benefits of dedicated server rather than a simple reseller account? Thanks There are several benefits to both it depends on your own needs. I found having my own dedi's gave me more freedom with products I could sell. But resellers have the benefit of not worrying about keeping a webserver secure and online. It all depends on your interests I would guess. alfalogic 03-02-2008, 08:29 PM There are several benefits to both it depends on your own needs. Like what if I would install some softwares and run a niche Video hosting site? Can this run well? Thanks hsphereclub 03-02-2008, 08:34 PM Thanks for replying. Thanks Yes you can do all of that as well on a dedicated server. But you might consider getting managed service along with your dedicated server because I am sure there will be a huge learning curve once you get started and managed service gives you some extra backup when things go wrong. ScarabWeb 03-02-2008, 09:01 PM i think its better to stay with an reseller package as long as it works and is reliable because professional webhosting companys with real reseller packages (not only mass-domain hosting packages) have more staff, faster servers and real owner-care support. maybe interresting article: http://searchyourwebhost.com/start-your-own-hosting-business - here you find the positives/negatives of different types of running an own hosting business with dedicated server/reseller packages alfalogic 03-02-2008, 09:21 PM Thanks for the answers, good to study them. |
