Does anyone have a reccomendation on a free chat session client that I can add to my website? I want to have the ability to talk to visitors in real time when they visit.

Also, do they have to be Java based, or is there a way to run something like that without the visitor having to download any additional software or active x controls, etc...

I don't know any free client software but I'll give you couple advices if you want to buld this client yourself.

I know you asked for a "free" client chat script, but you really should take a look at www.providesupport.com. IMO it's the best available live chat script for the price. I've been using it for over 2 years now and I cannot tell you how many additional sales we made because customers were able to chat with us right away... but it's been a lot.

I signed up with provide support, and love it. We have already had a lot of chat requests, both on and offline.
