Webhostingtalk.com and the wisdom here helped me greatly at the beginning of 2008 when i needed to escape a lousy web hosting company (Netfirms - lousy for me and others, OK for some others) and find a great hosting company (Nearly Free Speech.net is working out fabulously for me and others for which its unique business model makes sense, yet would not be suitable for many other individuals/companies).

I have been putting up web pages and a very few sites since 1996 as an "amateur". They tend to be content-rich and appearance-poor due to my sense of aesthetics that only an engineer could love.

While i am not likely to be here often, i do feel a need to post regarding my experiences with Netfirms and NFSN so that my findings can be added with those of many other people to help others make reasoned decisions most suitable to their circumstances.

I have no affiliation with any web hosting company other than as a client, with the possible exception of the all-purpose ISP California.com, where i get along very well with their lead tech. and help them train their Bayesian email filter.
