I just purchased a toll free number and a local phone number
from vitelity

The toll free was a one time $15 and then $1.50 per month
plus 1.6 cents per minute for inbound calls. the Local number
was similiarly priced except it had no inital $15 fee...

I run a 1 man consulting shop and i am simply looking for a way
to have a toll free number and a local number in a city (or a couple different cities down the road).

So, (drumroll please) here is the million dollar stupid newbie
question. What do I do next? I am a bit overwhelmed here with
all of the different VOIP terminilogy.

My needs are simply and i would like to keep the setup as
simple as possible. I dont mind paying extra money for reliabilty and longevity and quality of the solution...

I would just like it to be robust and effective...

I have a cell phone with a VERY generous minute plan, so
the idea was to just forward everything directly into my
cell phone and use it as my master phone, so to speak..

Can Vitelity do this for a Fee?? Can Skype? Do I need to
pay for some sort of Asteriks IP hosting?? Is there a company
that will do this and "host" the DID #'s and just charge me
a fee??? I will only be getting maybe 1000 TOTAL incoming
minutes per month off of the two DID numbers... so, can i
just pay a company do host it... Can i do this without buying
hardware??

THANKS GUYS!!!!

My guess would be to go with a PBX -- you can do a "Call Hunt" which will automatically call any numbers listed in the system that you put there until somebody picks up. You could also just set it to do a "direct call" to one specific phone. My guess is this would overall be cheaper and easier on you.

when you say PBX, do you mean get a service such
as ringcentral or govt mail?? would i forward my
Vitelity numbers over to that service also??

or, do I need to host my own PBX somewhere??

and, with regards to "direct call" would that be
included into my package with Vitelity?

I REALLY appreciate your help.

THANKS AGAIN!

I am afraid I have never used Vitelity

http://800pbx.com I use them

For a test call try my toll free so you can see how it works. They also offer a 30 day money back guarantee, and give a local number FREE

I am pretty sure that Vitelity can do this for you. Open a support ticket with them, now that you are a paying customer.

You can do this with Vitelity very easily. Just create a sub account in your Vitelity control panel, and route all your DID's to that sub account. Then set the failover on all the DID's to the number you want to forward to. If done right, all calls should instantly forward to you.

I've been using them for 3 months now. Haven't had any problems yet. I even ported a few numbers over to them.

We use Vitelity as well. We've been using them for about a year and a half now without any issues. Support is very good when needed in rare cases :)

If the VoIP provider gives out SIP or IAX accounts (vast majority do), you don't need a PBX, just a regular software VoIP phone will work fine. CounterPath makes some decent ones (including a free one).
