View Full Version : Logo needed for price comparison site
major 08-15-2002, 12:49 PM I have just gotten a new design for my price comparison engine, which used to be part of OcPrices.com. As this has now gotten its own domain - and name - I'm looking to have a logo made for it.
The name of the site is PlanetPrices.com. As we list prices from retailers in many countries, I'm thinking of a slogan along the lines of "PlanetPrices - the place to find the lowest prices on the planet!" - or something similarly catchy.
The logo should say PlanetPrices - or PlanetPrices.com, depending on what fits best. The logo is to be placed inside the 'panel' at http://www.planetprices.com (where it currently says OcPrices.com etc... - upper left corner with the search area - this area: http://www.planetprices.com/img/logo2.jpg).
I have the PSD file for the entire site, so the I'd appreciate if the one that wins could incorporate their design this way too...
Post your logos and your prices and I will seriously consider it. I prefer to pay by Paypal if possible.
Brief details:
- PlanetPrices.com (coming): price comparison site for computer hardware from retailers worldwide (currently: the US, the UK, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Australia, The Netherlands, Canada and Germany).
Thanks.
Bannaz 08-15-2002, 01:05 PM We'll take part in this one. :)
Bannaz 08-15-2002, 01:32 PM Here is our logo design for your website.

Best Regards,

YourCompany 08-15-2002, 02:31 PM 30 dollars via paypal reply or pm me if interested.
major 08-15-2002, 02:39 PM Chewnet: thanks for your submission. I'll be sure to include your logo in my decision.
YourCompany: nice looking logos - not sure if they will fit with PlanetPrices, though...
major 08-15-2002, 02:41 PM Forgot to add: I need this logo ASAP, so I will make my decision tomorrow at the latest. Thanks.
Bannaz 08-15-2002, 02:55 PM Great, okay. :)

major 08-15-2002, 04:58 PM dancies: good looking logo. Not sure it would fit the site 100%, but it's one of the better attempts I have seen...
dancies 08-15-2002, 05:03 PM Is there any way to look at the site? I had to guess because I couldn't get the links in your origonal post to come up. If I could see what you have already, I can probably better match the look and feel you're going for...
Even better would be if you have a blank version of the http://www.planetprices.com/img/logo2.jpg file to try different stuff on top of.
By the way, thanks for the compliment :)
-Dave
major 08-15-2002, 05:10 PM The http://www.planetprices.com link does work, but you have to be a little patient as the code isn't really optimized for the 18000+ products currently in there. That's in the works, however. Give it 15-20 secs, then the page WILL load...
I do have the whole site as a PSD file, but I'm not sure I should post the link here for everybody to see. I will of course give access to it to the winner...

dancies 08-15-2002, 05:24 PM ...and load it did! Well, I tried to put my first logo on top of the design - did a *real quick* job of hacking out the old logo and putting in my new one (with revised colors and a glow). Any feedback?
dancies 08-15-2002, 05:27 PM A second attempt...
major 08-15-2002, 05:59 PM dancies: logo doesn't really fit into the design - font etc is too different from the rest, somehow... The logo is nice, however...
I'll be gone for 6-8 hours now - am in Europe and am one of those creatures that actually have to sleep :). Please post your results and I'll pick the best one during tomorrow. Thanks guys.
dancies 08-15-2002, 06:10 PM Yeah - I thought it might be a stretch...
YourCompany 08-15-2002, 07:53 PM Heres a big selection :). 30 dollars each payment via paypal. PM me if interested.

Well, there is no secret that many designers tend to use round and round based forms to create logos. There are some similarities between those two you have mentioned, but still there is a big difference when you compare them.
The form I've used, are almost the most common forms people use to create logos for companies related to internet/hi tech domains -- but not the only ones, of course.
See for example almost the same (round form, and semi round form) forms used here:
http://www.millenniumlogo.com/Samples/QuestComm.gif
http://www.millenniumlogo.com/Samples/Logo_Design_Sonergy.gif
http://www.millenniumlogo.com/Samples/Logo_Design_Power_Ray.gif
http://www.millenniumlogo.com/Samples/IlliumQuest.gif
and especially this one:
http://www.millenniumlogo.com/Samples/MCS.gif
same motive, same forms. But different logos.
And btw, when you compete with someone, try to know how to loose. That's part of the game. It's called fair play.
For me, every "WHT contest" it's a chance to test myself, not to test others.
I wanted to write down all of this because I felt it's going to be usefull for all of us to know these things.
As for me, to be sincere, I was hoping that my #2 will make a good impresion. (I still used in it a curved form in it along with a rectangular form)
ReDeeMeR 08-19-2002, 05:13 PM where's major? I sent him a few emails and didnt get any response :bawling:
lol :D

Hmm. I was thinking about working on a logo for this one, but I don't think I will. Major was to decide by the 16th, but it is now the 19th and he hasn't even posted in his own thread for the last 2 1/2 days. Yet you guys are still submitting entries.
Does that seem as odd to you as it does to me?
Vito
major 08-20-2002, 03:42 AM Sorry guys. My connection to my ISP has been down since Saturday so I haven't been able to view the logos - and even less respond to this thread (or email). Sorry about that.
After leaving work today I will sit down and try to decide on a logo. I am not IN ANY WAY trying to get a new free logo. I hope - and think - I will get a new logo this way and am willing to pay for it.
Again, sorry.
Martin Jorgensen
major 08-21-2002, 03:54 PM Sorry again for delaying everything. However - I have chosen to go with Aplusmedia for my logo as I liked what he had to offer. Thanks for all the great entries.
Martin.
Acroplex 08-21-2002, 07:35 PM Sorry but your logo was too much of a close call to that of the Aussie registrar's - I'd call it a tremendous coincidence but chances are that it was "lifted" subconsiously and not by malice.
And who complained about "loosing" [sic] ? For starters we all lose when the compensation is so measly low.
I do like the samples you just posted, BTW.
