You really don't need submission software or a service with the search engine situation as it is today. There are only a few search engines that really are important, and even fewer that accept free submission.

If you do use a service, stay away from anyone who says they'll submit to hundreds, or thousands, or half a million search engines.

And you could do your own submission in only a few minutes. First, submit to the Open Directory at dmoz.org -- it's a human-edited directory; don't bother submitting until your site is complete, with no "under construction" pages, broken links, etc. A dmoz listing is essential, because every major search engine uses the dmoz directory to seed its database or as a starting point for its spidering. Get your site into this directory, and within a month or two it will be everywhere.

Then, assuming you're talking about only free submission, you don't have too many more options. You can submit to Google, but they'll find you pretty quickly anyway if there are other sites linking to you, and they won't list you anyway if there aren't.

You can submit to AltaVista (and that's a submission that can't be done by software, as you'll see when you try it), and AllTheWeb.com (FAST). And that's really about it, unless you're willing to spend a little money for inclusion... other search engines will have to either pick you up from dmoz or find you through their own spidering.

Matt,

It's really good to be listed in search engines. But the keyword that we are all looking for is " web hosting , web site hosting " Which has got too many people already being listed under it for top placements for tens of thousands US$ !

Mostly people do not search more than first 2 pages, or in other words only top 20 listed.

So, I do not recommend you to be automatically submitted to search engines. Submit your site yourself to each search engine you are willing by hand, the chances are more to get a better ranking if you hand submit your site.

I know some people are charging you for US$ 600 and they'll guarantee you top 20 placements. Their URL address is:

Have a great day!

Services that guarantee positions do so for keywords and phrases that they choose... in other words, no one will guarantee you top positioning for a term like "web hosting," as you mention. Guaranteed positioning is the search engine optimization business equivalent of "unlimited" in the web hosting industry: it's almost always based in deception.

For example, I could guarantee Dave top positioning for "unitedhosting." But what good would that do him? Another approach used is to take a fairly unique phrase from a page on the site, and easily get positioning for that... but again, no one searches for it, so... so what?

Just as an "unlimited" host might offer good service in spite of that marketing approach, an seo firm that offers guaranteed positioning might in fact do good work. But take any guarantee with a grain of salt, unless and until you have the specific search terms and the search engines in which the position is to achieved in writing.

You might notice too that for that particular service if you double check at each search engine the rankings they say they have for their own site, they are not really ranked as well as they say.
