View Full Version : HostNine reseller central - anyone else offer anything similar?
I, Brian 02-18-2008, 12:13 PM I've just signed up with Hostnine and really love their reseller central feature - a superb idea that's going to make managing accounts so much easier.
Question is, is this a bespoke system only HostNine have, or are there any other hosting companies offering something similar? If so, who's running a similar system (outside of HostNine resellers, I guess. :) ).

Contrary to popular belief, it's actually nothing new and many do offer this already, just not via WHM.
H-Sphere (a webhosting control panel) has been doing this for a long time and really well. Advantage is that with H-Sphere it has been designed to work very well with a clustered solution. WHM? Not so much..
A good achievement to have it done through WHM, but as for the idea being new or innovative is not true.
Cartikahosting.com is one of them.
I, Brian 02-18-2008, 12:40 PM Thanks for the reply - I guess I've overlooked H-Sphere for a long time, being focused on WHM/Cpanel. Interesting to see that in play there.
Would be interesting to know whether anyone else offering reseller plans actually has something tagged up with WHM as wellas HostNine.
Shaw Networks 02-18-2008, 04:02 PM Are you referring to the "Reseller Center" that comes standard with WHM past version 10.8? Or is this some sort of sub-reseller system?

I think he is talking about HostNine's reseller system where you have your reseller account but can allocate your clients accounts to different "nodes" in different locations.
As Rameen said, nothing new, but still thumbs up for doing it with whm.
foobic 02-18-2008, 05:45 PM For those saying it's nothing new, please can you give examples of other providers allowing their resellers to set up client accounts on different servers in multiple remote locations.
Most HSphere providers have their cluster set up within a single datacenter (for good reasons I'm sure). I don't know any hosts offering the equivalent of H9s setup, but like the OP, I would be interested to find out.

This actually hasn't been done at all. You cannot choose your location when creating accounts in an h-sphere system it's simply just made to work in a cluster situation in the same data center. I'm not sure why Rameen said it has been done but we're interested to know more as well.

Of course :)

I believe that statement is not accurate. You can span your cluster to be in multiple locations. It is not bound nor made to work for just 1 cluster in the same DC.
I remember last time this same conversation came up, some well known h-sphere hosts did come on the thread and say the same thing :)
foobic 02-20-2008, 05:41 PM So Rameen, can you give us any actual examples of HSphere (or other) hosts whose clusters extend beyond a single datacenter?

Granted, you've probably never used H-Sphere, but the statement is still very incorrect. H-Sphere can and does cluster to as many locations as the top tier provider wants. It is actually designed specifically to NOT limit a provider to a single location.
It also has the added ability, something cpanel/whm and any off-spring software can not do, and that is to allow those servers to be fully automated, fully clustered, redundant, and integrated. If a H-Sphere providers wants their DNS in Singapore, their MySQL servers in Sydney, their coldfusion servers in Shrewsbury and their web servers in Seattle (for example), it's just a click (and server purchase) away.
H-Sphere works in the same way described in the thread, except on a much grander scale.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Relio (http://www.relio.com) does this.

I, Brian 02-27-2008, 09:11 AM Thanks for the comments - would be very interested to know of any other Hsphere resellers who provide multi-regional hosting via a single CP - the potential redundancy benefits seem sold.
Also, thanks for chiming in HostNine - interesting to see you lead on this for WHM. :)

Eirca will soon add servers at the 2nd SoftLayer DC in Seattle.
