I'd applied for a Total Merchant Services merchant account last week and today I received an email from them telling me I can only charge on a per-month basis?? Is this what they all do now or is there a way for me to get them to change that? This is unacceptable for me because I need to offer 6-month and 1-year hosting contracts.

Then you should look at other options.

Like Revecom and 2checkout and hostcharge and . . . . .

But those aren't true merchant accounts. Are there other alternatives?

Anyone? Is this really the standard policy now or are they just being picky with me because I'm just starting out with merchant accounts?

Seems like most merchant accounts don't allow billing for periods longer than a month. We just got a merchant account from EMS and asked them about it. They said they don't like anything more than 3 months and after we've been with them for a while they can re-evaluate.

In our case this makes the merchant account kind of useless, we have about 60K in Revecom recurring charges, most of them annual. We're keeping the annual & quarterly accounts with Revecom and will only use EMS for the monthlies.

I guess we'll keep looking for a merchant account that allows annual.

Run away from Total Merchant Services as fast as you possibly can:
