How much for extra transfer?

Maff
08-15-2002, 09:11 AM
Extra transfer costs £3 per GB over the standard 25GB. (However we're not that strict on data transfer, so if you go up to 28GB then we probably won't say anything!

Matt.

Where in the UK will the server be located, and will you allow access for hardware upgrades etc when needed?

will you take a mini tower case?

Thanks, Steve

We are based in Maidenhead, Berkshire about 30 mins from London. We can collect the server from anywhere in the UK included in the monthly price, and you can have full access to your server for hardware upgrades. We'll move the server into a 'staging area' for any hardware upgrades, but it will still have a network point.

Feel free to drop me a mail if you like.

PS. Mini tower is fine.

Thanks

This offer will last for 2 more months. We haven't put it on the website, which is the reason for just my e-mail address above.

This offer is quite different to the plan listed on our website!

Cheers, Matt. :)

That looks like a great deal! One thing I'm wondering about is the internet connection the datacenter has? And what protections does the datacenter have, fire protection, air conditioning etc? :)

Hi,

We currently have two connections using BGP. Each is 10MBit. We have a 2Mbit backup and an additional 2Mbit line coming from XO in the next couple of months.

We have full climate control, APC UPS system, and a 10KW diesel generator on standby.

It's fully alarmed, and security hut is only 70 foot away 24h a day!

The data centre is secure, thus all customers machines can be bought into the office for upgrades etc.

We actually own our fibres going into the centre, we laid the fibres ourselfs

Hope this helps! :)

They connect to BT links, at a termination point alongside the A4.

http://www.ripe.net/perl/whois

AS4589 = Easynet, UK National ISP

Tracing route to poundhost.com [195.149.61.248]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

5 26 ms 27 ms 20 ms ge-1-0-0-7-telee-tashtego.router.clara.net [195.
8.68.235]
6 22 ms 58 ms 40 ms lon1-10.nildram.net [195.8.68.202]
7 22 ms 21 ms 23 ms loudclear-gw.nildram.net [195.149.20.138]
8 26 ms 24 ms 25 ms jumpgate4.loud-n-clear.net [195.149.60.65]
9 126 ms 33 ms 26 ms a.neighbourhoodinter.net [195.149.61.248]

Trace complete.

Poundhost are colo'in with Loud-n-clear.net, who by the looks own the datacentre in Berkshire

Loud-n-clear are not a multihomed provider according to a lookup with RIPE (195.149.60.65), they are buying lines from Nildram (who are without doubt a good UK provider)

As for laying your own fibre, it is conceivable that Loud-N-Clear may rent their own fibre to the BT POP, however this is pretty unlikely considering that the only fibre in that are is BT fibre and BT won;t sell/rent you open fibre pairs.

They could have course have laid it themselves, but as we are talking about a non-multihomed provider this is unlikely to be the first cash spend. (Costs for laying fibre run at 60 per metre)

Definetly sounds like a good offer, but I think its important we move away from misleading information to customers, and try and start telling the truth about the buildings we use, connectivity etc; Ultimately dishonesty will damage your business and the industry.

Thanks for that info Jordan, however poundhost.com (195.149.61.248) is not at our datacentre. That's why the IP address i gave for people to ping is not that above. Try 81.29.68.123 and route number AS24931

As for our own fibre, I can send you the pictures from the actual install if you wish - with me driving the dump truck :D

Cheers, Matt :D

This is you guys then?

dedi power .com

Im sure we'd all be interested to see the photo's! Not many people who can say they dug their own fibre.

What was the distance you laid? What size PDC did you lay?

Who is your other provider apart from Easynet?

Thanks

We laid approx 380 meters. Not sure what the PDC is, all I know is that it was 62.5/125 multi core fibre external shield grade.

Who is your other provider apart from Easynet? XO Comms.

Wow that's really cool. Did you have to get any permits to lay all that fiber?

I'm really fascinated by all this...:)

Maff, you offer has to be the best i have seen for uk co-lo. I have seen one offer for £25 a month, in a cheap data center in Manchester University. Have you got any info on your dedicated servers ?

Matt

Maff
08-30-2002, 09:39 AM
Hi mcfcforever,

The dedicated servers are new Compaq's with 128MB RAM 1Ghz PIII and 15GB HDD as standard. All can be upgraded for little cost (256MB RAM £45).

They come with 25GB of monthly bandwidth (extra GB @ £3) and the normal managed support which includes free reboots and the loading of your own operating system and configuration to your needs.

Feel free to drop me an e-mail for more information, or more detailed quotes matthew@poundhost.com

There are also no setup costs either. :)

Regards, Matt.

How many IP's are included with your 1Ghz PIII Compaq server?

Maff
08-30-2002, 11:02 AM
We can supply 20 IP's with the server, however more are available on request, as long as they are covered by a brief explaination as to why they are needed to satisfy the RIPE people.

Hiya,

Im not trying to be awkward or question you Maff, but a number of things dont add up here.

What exactly is your relation to as-uk/dedi-power the traceroute to that ip address goes via easynet, to their AS, and then onto your ip address (still on their AS), at what I can only presume is their reading data centre, unless you have a leased line from them to your data centre.

Either poundhost and as-uk/dedi-power are the same company under different names, or what we're hearing isnt quite true

Im not trying to discredit you, merely trying to understand what you've stated compared to what I can actually see.

(Edited because of the filter)

Tony Lucas

Hi Toons,

We're simply in the process of moving offices. Currently our equipment is based at Reading via as-uk's backbone. Our connection/leased lines will be following us to our new facility in Maidenhead. The advantage is that we will own more of the network in Maidenhead, and i'll live closer to the office :) The connection will be the same, except they will run over our AS.

The data centre should have been open by now, but unfortunatly it's been delayed.

Hope this helps,

Regards, Matt.
