I am looking for a freelance designer or a design firm to re-design my company websites. It would be great if you could personally recommend someone to me, but any point in the right direction would be appreciated.

Quotes I have received so far are either several hundred dollars (not professional) or tens of thousands (way too proffesional :stickout: ) I am looking for something in-between those figures.

Thanks for your help.

You're going to end up going into your Web project blind if your main objective is to meet the "right" price.

I'm going by what I have experienced so far. Whenever someone quotes me a three figure sum and provides their portfolio, their standards are lower than I am looking for. If I find a nice design firm with a great portfolio, I get the five figure sums quoted.

What I'm looking for is a design that costs between those two figures and where these companies or individuals are hiding from me :)

Maybe someone knows an up and coming designer that needs to build their portfolio?

I forget their addys but there are some coder-type designer sites that offered their services. The main advantage to using them was the fact that, in their economy, $60US was like $400 to them and they would work all month on your sites for a pittance. This, of course, excluded any real competition from Stateside coders...

Getting a unique and "professional" design requires much time and experiences..if your budget is about few ten dollars (less than $100). I would suggest to go for dreamtemplate or templatemonster and just change default text.

Do you already have a logo by the way? do you need a logo?

Unless I'm mistaken the OP is looking for someone with integrity and credibility, as well as someone willing to stay in constant contact with him, and charges a reasonable amount for a professional design that will deliver results for his company.

Hopefully this will help with additional replies, since I don't really think he's getting replies close to what he's asked for ..

Mr. Hirsch is absolutely correct. Even though this can sometimes help preliminary gauging, I don't think you should necessarily accept, or not accept a bid based on the price.

This might not necessarily apply to the OP, but I think it's valuable either way for anyone looking for a designer. What I think is more important, is how do they propose you'll make that investment back? What can you learn of their processes? How do they approach each project? What can you learn of their past ability to deliver results? In no particular order and there's many more questions you should ask along the way, especially those that you don't understand or are unsure about.

Even though budget/price can be a deciding factor, I always think it's one of the last questions one should ask, rather than the first. Sort of like reading the label, then checking the price, rather than vice versa - Especially if they're offering free consultation!

I would simply like to know if anyone can recommend a web designer or websites where designers 'hang out' so I can begin requesting quotes.

Shoot an email to Joel from http://www.designsbyjm.net. Have dealt with him a few times and he is a great guy. It was always pleasant experience and his price is reasonable.

Why don't you find some good websites in your business area and to contact their designers. They will know waht to do because they were there.

Just post your requests in offers and requests form. That would bring you a lot of offers from various companies and freelancers.

Someone mentioned guru.com a good place to find different service providers, then have a look at http://www.opendesigns.org many people have uploaded their work over there see if someone their fits your needs, I don't mean to say just grab a free design but look for the designers who suites you.

I would say go with someone local who you can meet and who you can trust.
