Hi.

In some servers, when I do pstree, I get the process eth0

What actually is that process and why it is on some servers and not on other servers?

anyone care to explain..

i did lsof | grep eth0 and found it to be a socket/FIFO .. but what is it exactly and from which process/application?

well eth0 is the ethernet device. An application may have the device listed in it's arguments.

Hi,

I found out .

All 5 systems from 7.2/7.3 clean install alongwith cpanel that shows eth0 in pstree are using RTL-8139 Fast Ethernet Card. So it is this particular network card that runs the eth0 FIFO.

lol, just make sure it isnt someone running a trojan on ur server...using eth0 would be clever.
