View Full Version : YourPay vs. CDG Commerce?
thinksmart12 02-11-2008, 04:13 PM Hello,
I am looking to start accepting credit card payments, but there are a few things that I'm not sure about. First of all, are YourPay and CDG Commerce comparable? Do they both provide the same services? The most important one for me would be the Virtual Terminal, where customers can call to make payments. Also, I know that CDG Commerce's fees are $10 monthly plus the credit card fees, but what are YourPay's fees? I'm not finding this information on their website. If somebody has experience with both of them, a simple comparison would be appreciated.
Thanks.
mrzippy 02-11-2008, 07:34 PM If you can't find the fees listed on a vendor's website, then that is never a good sign. :)
We've used cdgcommerce for about 3+ years now, and absolutely love them. In my opinion, it is worth paying a few dollars extra per month to use them instead of one of the other "lower cost" merchant accounts we could find. I'm very happy to pay for excellent service and support.
HostingFuze 02-11-2008, 07:36 PM I agree with mrzippy. We have been with CDG Commerce for almost a year now and have been more than happy with the level of service provided. They have a great team over there, it is definitely worth any monthly fee.
thinksmart12 02-11-2008, 07:51 PM Thanks for your input. I understand what you both are saying, but YourPay seems to be the service offered by my local bank. Would it still be worth it to go with CDG Commerce? What would you do in this situation?
Alex Pher 02-11-2008, 08:03 PM You have to look for pros and cons to see which one suits you better. No matter which processor you go with, the funds will still get deposited in your account :)
Corey Bryant 02-13-2008, 04:55 PM Actually it is comparing apples and oranges. YourPay is another brand for LinkPoint (which is an electronic payment gateway). And you need an electronic payment gateway if you are going to get a merchant account. YourPay was the gateway that First Data had and resold (mainly through Chase) before First Data bought Cardservice. After the complete migration, YourPay was still there being sold as that but it is the LinkPoint gateway. (This is why there are no prices mentioned on the site, they rely on resellers to sell their products.)
CDGCommerce is a merchant account provider who can offer you a merchant account and an electronic payment gateway.
Chances are your bank is offering you the merchant account and the gateway YourPay. The gateway will then speak with a transaction provider (First Data, Nova, etc) which will either process the transaction or send it over to the card assocations for authorization.
thinksmart12 02-13-2008, 06:10 PM So what your saying is that YourPay is the gateway, and is comparable to Quantum Gateway? Would this also mean that my bank and CDG Commerce itself can be compared?
Corey Bryant 02-13-2008, 06:20 PM Basically - yes. CDG can offer you the merchant account (just like your bank) and they will offer you a few choices for the electronic payment gateway.
Corey Bryant 02-13-2008, 06:23 PM Also, in my opinion, it is better to go with a merchant account provider instead of your bank.
One, your bank probably outsources this to a merchant account provider already.
And a lot of times, if something were to happen with your merchant account (i.e. too many chargebacks) and it is suspended, some banks will not distinguish the difference between your bank account and merchant account. They might also put your checking account on hold or close it which will cause you more problems.
thinksmart12 02-13-2008, 07:04 PM Thanks for that tip Corey Bryant. This might be a little off topic, but could you explain the differences in the electronic payment gateways that CDG Commerce offers? In other words, is there any major difference that would force me to evaluate them all rather than just go with Quantum Gateway?
Corey Bryant 02-13-2008, 07:49 PM I have not used some of the electronic payment gateways unfortunately so I could not comment on them. Each gateway will have its pros and cons of course.
Most processors (especially Internet) will offer you both so it is easier to set up and they can enter your MID / TID, etc on the correct processing platform.
CDG seems to offer the Quantum Gateway so you could get both from him (the merchant account and the gateway). You might call them and see if they could help with some of the differences in the gateways they support. Each will have some perks and some will be pretty basic.
For example, some gateways will help with calculating sales tax. Most gateways should support AVS in the United States and the CVV / CVC as well. Some gateways will charge you a transaction fee (on top of what the merchant account provider charges). And some just charge a monthly fee.
Unfortunately no one can offer you an unbiased opinion on all the gateways (last I looked, I counted eight nine last year on the First Data platform).
