Thanks! hekwu 02-10-2008, 03:05 PM There are tons of ways to finding the right name for your company. I'm sure others will provide those, like brainstorming with close friends for a couple of hours or searching the net for names not already in use. You could go with "x" hosting (like fluidhosting) or go with something similar to hosting, but not really related. Or you could go with something not related to hosting and attempt to build a brand (like 1and1). I'd only say ensure you pick something that you can use in a legal capacity. You don't want to start using a name then have a C&D letter show up four months after your launch. Shaw Networks 02-10-2008, 04:55 PM You could consider trying to incorporate part of your name into the business name. mrzippy 02-10-2008, 06:29 PM Your web hosting business can use any name you want. It really does not matter. It's all about "branding". For example... what does "google" have to do with search engines or advertising? What does "yahoo" have to do with anything? What does "ford" have to do with cars? There are some basic things to consider, however.. such as keeping your name short and easy to remember. You probably don't want something difficult to spell. So a name like "supercoolreallyniceandrockinwebhosting.com" is not a good choice. I don't think customer's are going to care what you call your business, as long as your website instills confidence and security to them. You could have the "best" name in the world, but you will not succeed if your product/service is bad. My advice is to pick a name that is short and sweet (no more then 2 or 3 syllables), and where the .come AND .net are available. I hope that helps. xxen 02-10-2008, 08:04 PM Most of the time the best names are either the least complicated thus giving people a better chance of remembering it or a catchy name that gives people warrant to remember it. If you look at simple but well know names sucha as: *nike *TPG *1&1 etc etc goodluck dotHostel 02-10-2008, 08:47 PM Take a look at deleted domains lists. Also try Enom/Godaddy/etc "recommended domains" I suggest register under the TLD of your own country and, if available, under .COM and .NET. Stay away from .info and exotic TLDs. Exploit-Hosting 02-10-2008, 08:53 PM Yeah this was a very difficult decision for me as well. Though I eventually thought one up and went with it because I was waisting a lot of time on it. Though now that I look back Exploit wasn't a good idea but I went with it anyways. Just think of something that isn't copyrighted and is short and sweet like everyone else has been telling you. Hate to echo everyone else but .COM and .NET are the main things to aim for if all fails a .ORG wouldn't hurt but still only settle for it if you really have no choice. unixcares 02-10-2008, 08:54 PM I do really agree with short names. Actually name doesn't matter, Your products/service which matters. If you want to use large name, then you can use abbreviations for large name which also help people to remember your name easily. Example IBM HP TCS CTS dotHostel 02-10-2008, 09:07 PM Another suggestion: don't use a domain name very specific as in the future you may want to offer different services and products or expand the business to another regions. E.g. Colo4Dallas, VPSLand, PenguinHost, Asphosting, XeonHosting RICK22 02-10-2008, 11:47 PM Well i think the name should be hostingbiz.com...........?? I have one in mind, just got to check the availability! infinite_in 02-13-2008, 05:01 AM You can also check few tools like nameboy.com or some keywords tools, I hope that may help. CustomX 02-17-2008, 09:36 PM I like to use instantdomainsearch.com and dotomator.com sometimes instantdomiansearch gives you a false hope of availability :( but it's still a decent tool. Good Luck in your name quest :) teachforjune-Scott 02-18-2008, 10:57 PM I've found that putting two things together that normally wouldn't go works well. It sets up some internal conflict that makes the name memorable. sourcandy sweetvinager smallelephant bigmouse etc. Not saying this are great names, but mixing the unexpected can create unusual, but memorable names. |
