View Full Version : Sedo slowing down, customer support sucks.
magic-eyes 02-10-2008, 04:59 AM Hi,
It started with my domain names parking. Adding a new domain into my account took more than 2 weeks (they claim 2-3 business days to "verify" the owner info. I don't know where that 2 weeks traffic went but nevertheless, 14 days is not 2 days.
Then I managed to sell one of my domains - guess what. Their communication totally sucks! The last email I got from them - 16 days ago! It says that they received the money so I can release my domain for the transfer. I did. My domain had been transfered to the buyer. The transfer took 4 days. It is clearly visible in the "whois" info. So it's been 12 days since then, I sent them at least 4 emails, no success. Anyone else with bad "sedo" experience?
infinite_in 02-10-2008, 05:40 AM I've not experienced such problem, they mostly reply my mail within 24 to 48 hours!
First of all it's sad to hear about your problem, but I will try to explain things a bit.

Domain verification does not actually take 2 weeks. It is normally 24-48 working hours, however if you redirect the traffic, it will be even quicker, as far as the system detects the traffic automatically.

I have seen people saying the same about the transfer delay, but in almost 99% of cases it is caused by delayed communication from the seller or the buyer. Even though the whois change is visible that does not guarantee that the domain is in the buyer's hand, so Sedo is taking extra measure to get a confirmation from the buyer.
I hope my comments helped you somehow. As for myself, the last transaction done through them was around 11 months ago, which worked quite smoothly. If you see any delay, it is always better to give them a call to find the information about the status of the transaction instantly.
magic-eyes 02-10-2008, 10:57 PM Thank you for your replies. Yes, when I started with my domain parking a year ago my requests were settled down within 1-2 days. Now when I wrote 14 days (meaning 10 business days) it's kind of something out of the scope. It happened to me indeed.
"but in almost 99% of cases it is caused by delayed communication from the seller or the buyer. Even though the whois change is visible that does not guarantee that the domain is in the buyer's hand, so Sedo is taking extra measure to get a confirmation from the buyer."
Well, even then, they should keep you updated about the progress, right? As I wrote - the last email I got from them was 16 days ago! And on top of it, it would be polite to respond to emails, especially when you deal with someone else's money. So I cannot buy that as an excuse.
Regarding the phone calls, I only tried to reach them once (answering machine). But surely I'm gonna try again tomorrow.
My point is that Sedo is not able to keep up with the "volume" they have nowadays.
Anyways, thanks for your inputs.
WebsterD 02-24-2008, 02:26 PM Sedo.com is a sham and their web site is impossibly difficult to use for the simplest task. Worse, their policy about cancellation then paying out parking earnings is a lie.
For parking, it's better to use a fee-based service than Sedo's "free" service. You'll see far better earnings for one thing, and you're more likely to receive answered emails when you have a question or service request.
Tristan Perry 02-24-2008, 05:36 PM Sedo really are an awful company, unfortunately they are the biggest auction site. Although there are still alternatives:
Afternic.com or TDNAM.com for domain auctions
Parked.com (http://www.parked.com/tour/?promo=AA99658905) for domain parking services :)
With regards to domain parking, I'd move to Parked.com (above) anyway.
BeZazz 02-24-2008, 10:33 PM Hi,
Anyone else with bad "sedo" experience?
yep the Sedo person handling my latest sale outright lied to me. They told me that where i have my name registered dosnt allow you to push the domain so it would take longer to transfer the domain....
So i replied explaining the they do allow names to be pushed(i have pushed hundreds of names) they then emailed saying that Sedo does not have an account with the registrar i use..
I thought it was pretty bad form to outright lie to me
I have also had a few of the fraud sales where the buyer never goes through with actually purchasing the domain and best i can tell Sedo allows these ppl to keep their accounts
dotflyer 02-25-2008, 07:20 AM Its true sedo take much time to reply mails. but I have good experience with sedo regarding domain sale, Its two time I sale domain using them and they take it professionally.
Don't know about their parking payments process good or not.

Yep, that's Sedo alright..
There's also been quite a few reports of auctions of really good domains ending 'early' (and being put in again, at a new 7 day auction) if the ending price wasn't as high as maybe it could have been. Really bad stuff.
