I have seen quite a few posts recently where people are having a hard time understanding some of what our Scottish friend 'ned patter' is trying to convey to us all.

Here's a site which should help you all in your endevours to truly make WHT a multicultural board - http://www1.kingston.net/~mcgaw/patter.html

It contains such classics as;

'Don't ask me what's gaun on pal. Ah'm only haudin the jaikets here.'

and

'That wee yap would talk the hind legs off a donkey.'

also be sure to read this one;

'Don't act it, pal. Ah left a full pint standin oan the bar when Ah went tae the lavvy.'

Don't need it, Dave. I used to watch "The Young Ones" on BBC. :D

Darned funny, tho.

They were English, not Scotts, there's a fair difference, as many here will attest to. I think most here would understand someone speaking English.

ned on the other hand they struggle to understand.

No your getting mixed up now.
I don't come from Glasgow, Glasgow born people's accents differ very much.

Lamont

Oh but don't get mixed up with words and accent. The list of words are all valid for my area but the accents not the same as people from Glasgow.

Okay, here is my Ned question of the day:

Ned has stated several times that he is "a bit hard" or looks "a bit hard". Is "hard" being used as a synonym for "tough", "ugly" (no offence Ned---just trying to find out), or something else?

-Lamar

Yep, a little "rough around the edges" perhaps, the kind of fella you wouldn't like to run into in a dark alley.

Perhaps Ned could post a picture.:stickout

Let's all make the effort to learn these terms and use them whenever ned patter is around to make him feel as comfortable as possible.

Ned.

1. This gear is in a low crime area
2. We have alarms
3. The police station is next door :)

But thanks for your concern. Now we need to see the photos of your ex's :)

ned patter

The police stations next door?, even more need to be concerned for when criminals get locked up for the night they get sent out and like usual they go for the first house they see.

ned, from your previous posts it appears that you live in an area with high crime and a lot of marauding youths causing problems (which is why I asked where abouts you lived).

I am glad to say that where I am we have very little trouble at all. A little graffiti is about the worst thing that ever confronts us.

I appreciate your concern, really I do, but I think you are seeing things from the perspective of high crime, it's really not something which happens around here.

ned's worried that if we all see how good looking the girls are in Edinburgh we'll all rush over to snap them up. True or false ned?

ned patter

Ohhhh i'm far too superior so i don't have to worry about anyone stealing the girls.

Is that what you mean in prvious posts where you have said you "look a bit hard"? Maybe that's why the women find you so appealing ned?
