View Full Version : addr.com BAD-BAD Warning!
mrmax 08-14-2002, 12:18 AM ADDR.Com
I joined their hosting service, and attempted to cancel before my 30 day trial expired.
I have sent multiple cancel request through their "Cancel form" and through email to customer support.
ADDR.com has failed to even respond.
ADDR has continued to bill my credit card.
ADDR is a BAD company to choose for hosting.
ADDR is a BAD company to do business with.
REASONS I canceled.
1. They failed to complete my domain name registration, jumping
the price from $20 to $35.
2. They took 10 days to respond regarding the domain registraton.
3. They can open your account in seconds and have your access
to the server set up just as fast. But forget anything else happening fast.
4. I sent several emails to Billing and never recieved a response.
5. They're telephone support doesn't exist. You will always get
a recording saying "due to call volumn we request that you email your questions".
You will get this message at 4am in the morning.
6. I sent many questions asking if their system would support certain software.
I only got an actual answer one time.
I was sorry I signed up with ADDR.com from day one. Their frontend web page
is slicker than most, and I thought it answered most questions. As a newbie
to web hosting I quickly found out how wrong I was.
I encourage anyone who is considering ADDR.com, to reconsider your decision,
there are better plans with better service available.
If you are presently using ADDR.com and you are happy with
the support and service you require, then I wish you the best.
ServerSonic 08-14-2002, 02:01 AM Sorry to hear about this, sometimes the design of a company's web site can contribute to your ability to anticipate how good the company is, but if used at all it should be thought of as a very minimal advantage. ADDR does have an AWESOME webpage but I guess looks can be deceiving. Good luck in your future hosting endeavors:)
Zoosushi 08-14-2002, 02:01 AM Well MRMAX, I must tell you, I used to host with ADDR.COM and I did run into some issues regarding support. I used to try to contact them about issues and when I would call their 24hour support phone number, I would be put on hold for about 15 minutes and then told to call later then hung up on by the PBX system. I used to try and call in the middle of the night to get support.
But in their defense, I must say, when I canceled my account they sent me a hand written check for a reimbursement for one months hosting...needless to say I was floored by this honorable act. I was totally not expecting anything from them and they cut me a check. So I must say, their support sucked in my opinion, but they did try to do me right by refunding a months hosting cost. So I can't totally agree with you that they suck, but that is just my opinion
:D
MAX POWER 08-14-2002, 02:40 AM Well,...Just goes to show: 'You can't tell a book by it's cover!'

mrmax 08-16-2002, 04:51 PM Sent my 4th request for cancellation, still no confirmation.
I have the confirming support tickets, acknowledging my email has been received.
Heck the IRS is faster than these flakes.....
xirus 08-16-2002, 05:15 PM i was hosting my personal sites at burlee and addr about 2 years ago and while burlee sucked addr was always professional. maybe they changed. :o
veryz 08-16-2002, 09:22 PM mrmax, I was just in a similar situation with Addr.com, after my first year with them I used their 'cancellation form', e-mailed multilple requests to billing, and even faxed a cancellation letter, yet the account remained open for about 10 days, so I tried their support e-mail (which generates an automatic ticket number).
Support e-mailed me back with the same cancellation link again, but I replied back (with the ticket number in the subject line) and told the person that I have already used this link with no success. Finally the account was cancelled and I even got a call back from billing to tell me that the account will be adjusted. So my suggestion to you is: open a support ticket and reply to the same ticket number, their system keeps track of them and routes the e-mail to the same support person. Keep on them, give them the date that you submitted the form, give them the date that you were billed, etc. Keep track of all your correspondence so you have proof when you need your credit card to reverse the charges.
Because of the lack of support I don't recommend them to anyone... however, I did get a personal apology email from them (after my account was closed), telling me that they are in the process of improving their support, hiring employees and will have staffed phones and live support on the site within a month. We'll see... their servers are very fast but the support is horrible.... hope this can change...
I had the same problem with them awhile back. I thought I heard someone say that they moved their operations to "India". I don't know if that's true, but I would advise anyone to avoid them like the plague!
I had bad expierences with them about 1-2 years ago and it still sits with me and haunts my dreams....Uuuuughhhh

As you can tell by my username, ADDR is not my favourite company in the world.
But I have experienced the EXACT SAME situation as you have and I'm ready to strangle the buggers. Also one day they tell me that the account is cancelled, the next day they send me an invoice for the money? They have tried to bill me 4 times so far...
Is there any legal action I can take? I'm actually located outside the USA if that makes a difference?
They used to be great, now I hate them more than ANYTHING else.

Xandra 09-21-2002, 12:57 PM I signed up with them last year and then a week later, I get an e-mail telling me that their client database was hacked  Luckily I got my refund.

CoreyW 10-22-2002, 08:31 AM I too had used ADDR for a while, and they were horrible on all levels. Especially support. It was non existant. I honestly felt like it was a ghost site. No one there.
