It's more of a generic SVR4 reference, but it also has shell stuff, sed, awk etc. Frank blacknight 08-14-2002, 12:57 AM Ouch! Heavy editing of this post needed! The Linux Cookbook (http://dsl.org/cookbook/) is available online for free! The O'Reilly books are excellent, but if you just need a quick and simple introduction to the commands try a some of these: http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/97/02/index3a.html?tw=backend http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/reference/unix_guide/index.html http://www.linuxdot.org/nlm/ If you do a search on Google you'll find a lot more, as a lot of the LUGs have beginners' guides and university lecturers usually include this kind of stuff in their online notes cbtrussell 08-14-2002, 07:30 AM Linux for Windows Addicts (Miller) Linux System Administration (Stanfield, Smith) Real World Linux Security (Toxen) Brandon vikvaliant 08-16-2002, 11:37 PM Get this book: Red Hat Linux Networking and System Administration by Terry Collins & Kurt Wall I know it sounds daunting, but it explains everything in plain english. Step by step from installing Red Hat Linux 7.2, to mail, webserver, ftp, etc. -- and the last couple chapters are on security. Go to Amazon and read the reviews on it. Then go to a bookstore and browse it. You won't have to buy another book to understand this book. |
