Hi,

Just curious what the most amount of RAM and in what configurations people have been able to pull off with the SUN OS?

I read that someone was able to put 1G (2 X 512M) into a RAQ 4

Before I go out and spend my money on RAM (although cheap these days) I would like to know what will really work.

1G of RAM in my 4i would be sweet since I use it primarly as a mail server.

Sounds a bit overloaded then... hummm...

Well you can put 1 gig in but more then once I have seen it cause crashing problems...

I recommend 512 and you might Want to add some rbl's or a firewall to drop some of the bad mail...

Oh no... not overloaded... just going on the theory that more is better ;)

I will stick to the 512MB as it seems to be running just fine.

(Still need to get you to do the virus and spam stuff now that the new box arrived)

You are awesome.... thanks again for your help.

Okay.... so I will stick with 512M in the Raq.

What is the most Ram I can put in my CUBE 2 safely?

And..... is the ram special? Can I take the sticks that I had in my Raq 4 and use them in the Cube?

I have two 128M sticks left over from my Raq when I upgraded that to a single 512M

Thanks,

D.

16-MB, 32-MB or 64-MB DRAM, packaged in Single In-Line
Memory Modules (SIMMs) (60 ns, 72 pin, EDO, 3.3 v)
• Possible to upgrade to a maximum of 256-MB DRAM
(two 128-MB modules)

there is some install weirdness that makes reading the manual important, So I tried to attached it. But's it's to big...

The Section reads

Adding a memory module
Be careful not to damage components during the upgrade.
1. If a PCI expansion card is already installed, you have to remove the
card before you can add the memory module. If a PCI card is not
installed, go to Step 4.
2. Remove the screw holding the PCI card in place.
3. Pull the PCI card out of the connector on the input/output (I/O)
board.
4. Remove the screw holding the central processing unit (CPU) card
in place.
5. Pull the CPU card out of the slot on the I/O board. See Figure 53.
6. If you have 128 MB of memory installed, the second memory slot
(slot 1) is empty in the Qube 2. See Figure 54.
You can have mismatched sizes of memory modules (for example,
you can install a 128-MB module and a 64-MB module).
Appendix B
166
7. If you have mismatched sizes of memory modules, you must install
the larger module in Slot 0. See Figure 54.
If the memory module you are adding is larger than the module
currently installed, remove the current module from slot 0 and
install the larger memory module. Install the smaller module in
slot 1.
If the memory module you are adding is smaller than the module
currently installed, install the smaller module in slot 1.
8. If a PCI expansion card had been installed, replace the PCI card in
the PCI connector on the I/O board. Fasten the PCI card in place
with the screw that was holding the PCI slot cover.
9. If you want to close up the Qube 2, go to “Closing the Qube 2” on
page 167.
If you want to add a PCI expansion card, go to “Adding a PCI
expansion card” on page 166.
