View Full Version : Host That Provide Refugee Package (Help Transferring)
edu4vision 02-02-2008, 01:26 PM I put up this thread based on my experience.
Actually, it's hard to look for reputable host
which provide help in transferring clients from
their old host.
If they provide the service, it kinda slow. (take
more than 24 hours)
Imagine that, reseller moved host because they suspect
their current host is going downhill. But it will do
no good for them if the transfer process are slow.
They might get caught up if the old host go down.
Transferring refugee is like a covert op. You must move
in and out quickly.
Based on my research and presales enquiries:
1) Inno Hosting (25 account, the rest you need to
FTP to their server and they help restore)
2) Geek Storage (30 account, the rest you need to
FTP to their server and they help restore)
Do you know anybody else? Please let me know so that I can
update this thread.
Brian-de-vie 02-02-2008, 01:35 PM Sorry I'm being dense, are you creating a list of 'refugee' hosts that offer good transfer, or bad ?
I assume you mean good, but it is unclear, and I hate making assumptions.
edu4vision 02-02-2008, 01:39 PM These are all good host that help transfer clients from bad host to their server.
(sorry if the original post is not so clear. My head is dizzy when writing it. Midnight and I'm a refugee. Just wanted to get it over with). I will edit it to make sure nobody mistook the good guy as the bad guy ;)
Brian-de-vie 02-02-2008, 01:44 PM In that case let me be the first, [but prob. not the last], to confirm Innohost
Mikey this way! 02-02-2008, 01:45 PM ResellerZoom also helps you transferring accounts. I don't remember the free limit though.
IH-Rameen 02-02-2008, 01:45 PM Brian & edu4vision, thank you for the recommendation :agree:
edu4vision 02-02-2008, 01:46 PM Duh... it's more than 15 minute. I cannot edit it anymore.

Read as: If the host provide transfer assistance, it kinda slow. (take more than 24 hours)

okihost 02-02-2008, 03:06 PM I am pretty sure any host who has the ability (say vis cPanel transfer utility) would be willing to do this. Just find a couple of hosts you are interested in then contact them and ask if they will take care of the moves for you, I will probably be surprised how many will.
edu4vision 02-02-2008, 03:12 PM I thought so at first. Until I tried to contact them myself.
Not many host want to move 50+ account. Most want us
to backup the account and send it to their server.
Quite a hassle.
devonblzx 02-02-2008, 03:58 PM Through cpanel, it isn't too tough to have the accounts transferred. Takes maybe a minute per account to click on Backup and enter the remote FTP information to have it transferred to your new host.
CPanel does the packaging and transfer for you. As long as you do research on your provider before transferring, it takes maybe an hour to transfer 50 accounts and you shouldn't have to do it again for a long time.
zacharooni 02-02-2008, 11:36 PM HostGator does this for free, seen several reviews about this.
abelida 02-03-2008, 01:55 AM can phpbb forum users and content be transferred? i am thinking about a transfer but fear loss of data....
masm50 02-03-2008, 10:32 AM As others have been saying, I think most hosts offer this for free at least for a number of accounts. It isn't that much work per account on there part and will give them a sale, so is probably worth the time and effort.
HostNine does offer it anyway - not sure about the free limit though.
In regards to PHPbb, if your database and files are located in your account, then it shouldn't cause any trouble. If you have used IP addresses rather than domains in any of the setup you may have to edit them - but all your posts/user account/templates should be ok.
Before you do though, make sure your new host is running a similar version of PHP and MySQL (or make sure PHPbb runs smoothly on your new host's setup) and most importantly BACK UP EVERYTHING YOURSELF, just in case something does go wrong.

gopzap 02-03-2008, 02:09 PM KalypsoWeb.com has generously moved all of my 50+ accounts. They've also went through all of the files and changed all 0777 permissions to 0755 so that it would be compatible with Apache 2. All of this has been done with no extra charge. The owner (Vince) enjoys transfering the accounts.
Shaw Networks 02-03-2008, 03:28 PM I'm fairly confident that ALL web hosts will help prospective customers transfer their websites from their old host to their company. Can't imagine a company that would turn away a large reseller account due to a small hassle transferring them over.
