Hi all, I was just curious, me being a beginner in all this web hosting business, how much you guys (or gals) make? And for the people who think it's none of the public's business, you are 100% not obliged to post a reply here :stickout .

Off topic, but akash your company I think is one of them most creative names out there. I remember learning about Utopia last year... was it Karl Marx who created the town?

actually Marx's definition of Utopia(communism) isn't the primary(and IMO isn't correct.)

the primary definition is actually "A perfect place", with the secondary meaning "an overly idealistic, unrealistic society"...

i like the primary better, don't you? :D

anyways, back on topic....

Yeah, it is, and a very nice name. Just to know, how much time did you spend on choosing the "right" name for your business? :D

Sounds Cool!

The term "Utopia " was coined by Sir Thomas Moore who wrote a book (c.1516) on an imaginary and ideal country and a place of ideal perfection especially in laws, government, and social conditions.
The term is also used with a negative connotation to denote an impractical scheme for social improvement.
Thanks for your indulgence! (Now you know how the members of the CW-licked-club shred and incinerate their woes!)

But, since I've been single a while, it all depends.
I have good weeks.
And then there are those times where I don't do anything for a coulple of weeks at a time.
It's like a rollercoaster ride. In more ways than one. ;)

Dennis, if you were getting it 10 - 20 times a week while married, then there can be only one explanation. You are a polygamist. :)

You'll likely be disapointed by the figures you may see on some of the newly (6 months-1 year) founded hosting companies.

You should be expected to take a loss in money and time for the first few months before you even see a profit. After a year or so, if you play your cards right, you might have enough to live from, but that might still be cutting it short.

Hello

Start small and grow organically.
Add customers/add resources/add customers.
Don't get into debt, it is simply not worth it.
We have made a profit every day from day one.

We have no debts and turned over about £400,000 year to end July (approx $600,000)
In the next 12 months we should turn over £600,000.

Of course only a small part of that comes to me.
And a large part of the profit comes from our domain registration business, but that drives the hosting to some extent.

Margins are very small.

Gordon
