View Full Version : How do you pick your staff?
finly 01-30-2008, 06:24 AM Hello,
I am wonder how do you guys started picking up your staff (sales, technical support, etc)?
I have a case, for example I pick a Live Chat staff, is there anything we can track that he do the valid/genuine work? He may ask his friend to pretend as buyer and have a chat or opening a sales ticket then run away.. something like that..
Any idea?
Regards,
QI
boonchuan 01-30-2008, 06:28 AM Normally the SOP would be an advertisement in a National Newspapers, this will attract about more than 100 applicants, from there we short list and asked them for interviews. Out of these interviewees we choose our staff.
Masud 01-30-2008, 06:33 AM We used different ideas to collect the staff!
We have some technical institutes and classes like Aptech / NIIT in our city. We simply placed our requirements there.
We also invited those students to complete their university projects from our office. When they come @ our premises for the projects we keep an eye on bright prospects and hand picked them as soon as they are available for the work.
Same way collected some Linux geeks from JetKing.
finly 01-30-2008, 06:38 AM Ah... How about remote staffs? I mean they will work from internet? not in house

Ofcourse they would work from my office but they wont give fulltime cause of their studies! They work for 4-6 hours a day. It saves a lot of money and they gain valuable experience during their studies!
Its 100% in-house operation!
network82 01-30-2008, 07:06 AM We searched on Monster for people who lived locally..
I got two guys that way and the other was through by recommendation.
we have an office, be-it a small one, so I allow my guys to work from home then a couple days a week. its a great perk to offer staff but does need a little supervision sometimes...
ameeriklane 01-30-2008, 07:20 AM Most jobs in general are found through contacts (networking), not through a newspaper ad. Try asking around among your contacts and you can usually find people who are looking for a new job.

QI, your at the best possible place for selecting your staff. WHT has a section called Employment Offers where people advertise their services and you can opt to choose from them.
Now regarding your case study, what you have said could possibly happen even if it is inhouse people. But then again, you can read through these forums and review about the people/companies that you have shortlisted as a first step. If you like what you read, proceed to put forward this question to the person/company.
Most companies usually have a SLA/NDA to counter these issues which assures that they will not do any fraudulent work or you can sue them.
In case of individuals, well its your choice to risk it, but I would believe the person's reputation in WHT does indicate a lot about his reliability. However mistakes can happen to anyone company or individual so its more of a mix or match to what level you are ready to spend in terms of money or time for the security/trust that you are looking for...
boonchuan 01-30-2008, 11:28 AM I think this is a great way, some sort of industrial attachment, you get to see their performances before you commit.

redkid 01-30-2008, 11:51 AM I feel selecting online chat staff is extremely important, because it gives the first image of your company. some clients might even use that for emergency support portal? so I would suggest to hire them in house..
there are lots live chat software built in with advanced management tools that help you analyze the traffic and record their chat..if most clients came from same IP range and ask for different questions? that is not normal.
Ultima VPS 01-30-2008, 12:35 PM All of our staff were previously clients of our company and over time built a strong relationship. The great thing about this method is that it gives us time to build trust and to get to know the person before we make any work committments. By the time they are employed by us we know them very well, they know us and they also know what we are about and how our technologies work. Great system.

Integrate a feedback system into your live chat and trouble ticket systems. Allowing your customers to evaluate the helpfulness of your staff members will go a long ways in maintaining a motivated and competent staff.
