Well, WHERE DID YOU START?

I know I need OPENVZ/XEN or vituozzo
I've had a server with openvz before, but i only had it for tinkering
And panel but what else is required?
installing is the least of my problems, i just need to get the software straight. what else do i need?

maybe he's asking for personal use only, Plus if he's all set up for selling VM's I see no problem either as learn to create/manage VMs is technically a nobrains job using interfaces like virtuozzo/hypervm for problems there are vendors to support the product you use, threat is marketing only.

What ingredients do I need to create VPS on a dedicated server?Well you have some options like virtualisation system, possible are vz bases, xen based, v-server/freevps based; all are good as far as i have experienced them.

I can recommend you hypervm, it is easy to install, and automates every bit of software, you just need to run an install script and after it you can create nodes, VMs, and manage every aspect inside the panel, It gets you started with as low as $10/mo software costs which covers cost of 20VMs including website management software Lxadmin included in each. forum at lxlabs.com is very nice and Preferably go with openvz option because of burst feature which gives maximum benifit to hosters and clients.

Can I run Cpanel, or DA, or Plesk with that combo as a control panel?

Everyone has to start somewhere :)

Virtuozzo is by far the best VPS management software on the market. See if you can try out a demo of it, you'll find that it's quite simple to add/edit/delete VPS's with Virtuozzo.
