willlangford 08-12-2002, 08:27 PM Yo -
Has anyone ever herd of or used a 802.11b wireless antenna made with a pringles can? And if so, do they work?
Thanks,
William
web docta 08-12-2002, 08:37 PM Yes, that is true as strange as it may seem. The Pringles cans work the best.
ned patter 08-12-2002, 08:41 PM It should work although i have never tried it.
What are you going to use this for a pirate radio station:emlaugh: .
willlangford 08-12-2002, 08:45 PM i am on a hight school tech team, and i am kinda the head tech and the webmaster (www.chehalis.k12.wa.us). we herd about these and it would save a lot of money to use them instead of buys tons and tons of base stations...

Lamont 08-12-2002, 08:51 PM TechTV (http://techtv.com) did a report on that a while back. You may be able to search their site for a write-up.
BTW: Nice job on the website.
willlangford 08-12-2002, 08:57 PM Thanks, I am going to redo some of the stuff, but not bad for a 15 year old kid, i am now 16 though. Also do you know of a place to get templates for websites. I am looking for something good, but different.
Thanks,
Will
ned patter 08-12-2002, 09:15 PM http://www.freesitetemplates.com is a good place to start for free ones and http://freewebtemplates is also good to and there's loads more of course.
complx.net 08-12-2002, 09:41 PM I do this with my local network at home.
I haven't done any IN DEPTH testing, but there is definately improvement.
We went from a lot of lost data to very little.

ned patter 08-12-2002, 10:38 PM Oh i see it's a computer thing, i thought it was for some sort of radio thing. I suppose my radio scanning expertise won't come in handy here.
I think the school is taking advantage of the students, this is year 2002 and it's not acceptable for schools to get students to make stuff instead of buying stuff.
alchiba 08-12-2002, 11:18 PM Do you have to take the chips out of the can first?
Maybe that's 802.11c.
FDrive 08-13-2002, 12:24 AM That's bizzare, I hadn't heard of this until now.
Dexter 08-13-2002, 01:28 PM yes it actually works but it's only useful for improving signal strength when you want to a point to point long distance runs. it won't work if you just want to boost signal for general use like roaming around a building.
willlangford 08-13-2002, 07:19 PM yep, we have one school that is just long, so i think that they will work very well.

Rotifer 08-13-2002, 07:27 PM One of our customers described, briefly, how he did this in our forum.
One of my friend's mom lives up the street from him, and she wanted internet, but didn't really want to pay $20 for a dial up that she would hardly use. He had cable modem, so we got a couple of the Linksys AP's (150's maybe? I can't remember), and a couple of Pringle's cans and a short trip into the attic is all it took. It was kinda fun building the yagi's.
homeiss 08-13-2002, 08:03 PM So what could I do with this if I built it...
