Any suggestions for the best help desk software out there which works on a cPanel server and works with pop3 accounts to create tickets ?

perldesk..is the way to go...though I don't exactly understand what do you mean when you say works with Cpanel...do you want it to be directly integrated into the CP ?

For me the best help desk sofware is perl desk.

the last 3 years, I bought more than 6 help desk sofware(100 to 200$ each) and the best I must say it is Perl desk.

From cPanel support I mean that it works on cpanel server with out alot of problems.. I tried to install pel desk but got a bunch of 500 server errors.... I think i will have to debug it manually...

but still, any other suggestions ?

500 errors can just be that your chmod of files are incorrect. Also, check your mysql db stuff. That sometimes will cause it, but mostly it is file permissions.

We had the same issue when installing, not that hard to fix though.

I agree with the majority here. I've installed several desks and always come back to Perl Desk! I'd highly recommend it and it works just fine with CPanel. As NodeHost said, your errors are most likely caused by chmod values being incorrect.

I am looking at writing my own helpdesk. What kind of features do you all use most?

Ticket Generation
Customer Database
Ability to search open and closed tickets
Statistics
Multiple Staff, Admins
Announcements by email and/or front page
Ease of install
Ease of upgrade
Multiple ticket levels

These are a few of the requirements that we looked for. I am sure that I will think of a few more.

For ASP based ticket solution with MS Access, they got one but it is not free at *******.com or something like that....

I like PerlDesk, it's a great piece of software. There are a few that I favor more, but they are costly and I can't afford to spend anything within the thousands.
