Hi,

I have quite a few dedicated servers for my hosting company, we just went through a full make over with a new website and billing software for our customers, what i was looking at doing was maybe creating a forum on our website for our customers to post and for people to join to ask questions get help etc.

i would like to hear if there are any reliable/good easy to use forum software out there that would fit my purpose? the server which our site is placed on has c-Panel/Linux -CentOS 5

i would appreciate any feedback that you may have?

Regards

Jake.

vbulletin is by far the best.

I prefer the smf software. IT is free to use and is very easy to customize.

I would personally go with IPB but for what your trying to do stick with vBulletin. I think a good example of someone using a vbulletin for their hosting site is www.dotable.com

vbulletin and IPB are both good options.

SMF is free and easy to use, use it for a few forums

For free, the best is MyBB (www.mybboard.net) :D

I would steer clear of phpbb as it seems to attract spam!

I just stumbled upon that one myself earlier today and it does look quite good.

MyBB is very customizable and secure. Better than phpBB, and comparable to SMF.

If you want the best of the best, IPB and vBulletin will serve you the best.

I think phpbb3 (http://www.phpbb.com) is a huge leap forward for phpbb and I recommend checking it out. It's gone through a pretty long and extensive development process and the new version feels very polished. Most of the app has been rewritten and has undergone a 3rd party paid security audit.

There is a lot of new functionality right out of the box and I think it's got feature parity with vbulletin and other paid/free solutions. Plus, the new screening process for mods/plugins is a positive thing as it helps ensure more secure high quality plugins.

PhpBB, vBulletin, SMF, MyBB and IPB are all excellent choices. However, vBulletin has an edge on all of them.

I definitely agree with woooo. I have used MyBB before for many things, and is definitely fantastic if your on a tight budget.

I am looking to use vBulletin in the very near future.
