View Full Version : Kantaris.org mistakenly banned by Google?

I have a site which can be accessed from the following two domain
names: kantaris.org and kantaris.net. Kantaris.org is the main address
and it's ranked as #1 on both msn and yahoo when searching for
kantaris. It used to be ranked as number 1 on google as well but now
it's not even listed. Kantaris.net is still listed but since all links
point at kantaris.org it doesn't have a good ranking.

A few months back my domain registrant forgot to renew the
kantaris.org domain name so for a couple of days the domain was
unregistered. Could this have anything to do with it?

Itäs not that I just need more links because if you search for kantaris.org you will get 1020 results most of which are links. This must equal a pagerank higher
than 0.

Please help.

I think the Google double contents penalty has taken your website by surprise. If two websites offer the same contents, only the first one that was crawled by Google will remain indexed, the other one will be banned.

Naturally if your domain had dropped during a period of time when google's spyders visited it this could cause issues. If such is the case and the registrant had a placeholder page up it would knock your PR for a loop a bit I'd gather. However I'm not a wizard at SEO so don't take my comments as a rule but major content changes seem to typically be frowned upon by spyders from what I have been told.

He hasn't got two domains offering the same content -- one redirect. As such, the duplicate site penalty most likely isn't occurring here.

The site being down during indexing sounds like the most feasible problem, unless you've been doing some questionable SEO like using link farms/directories and whatnot. Google has been known to penalise the hell out of sites that have reciprocal links with some of those. :)
