I would not be happy with 8 hours downtime.... It's not normal :D

Get a good provider. I can recommend http://www.eservers.biz for servers hosted in the US - Great people - Greatly connected - Great service, they wouldn't let you down - Contact them :D

Good Luck :)

I requested a refund based on the fact that I've only been a customer since Tuesday and my server was inaccessible until Wednesday (setup) was then down Friday (router problems) was up Saturday but then was back down Sunday (PP&L problems). My response?

"A single phase is out on one of our five electrical feeds...the newest one.
Two of the three phases in the system are functioning, so it is a rather odd circumstance. The problem is on the power company's side, between their transformer and entry to our facility. This is affecting about 10% of our clients only. PPL (power company) and our electrical technicians are currently working on the issue, and they tell us it will be resolved shortly. "

I guess that means no.

I thought Burst had backup generators?

Ok, there was a 8 hour downtime. This is not good but can happen on a serious issue. If you were happy with them before then I don't see a reason to leave... just my 10 EuroCents

Can you tell me one yourself?

Any server that has a downtime of 5 hours is not worth staying!
That is my personal opinion!
(My server just went down for 10 hours 2 days ago;) so now I'm leaving)

It does seem strange Robert. I would have imagined most data centers would have backup generators but quite obviously Burst don't or they weren't running / functioning.

Burst said that the power didn't totally fail.... so the backups didn't kick in - so were not used.... :)

I don't understand why they couldn't have manually moved to backup power?

Our Burst server fortunately wasnt affected by the power problem, but needless to say, Burst isn't on the list of possible providers for the new server we're getting this week :unhappy:

Perhaps the backup was not working :)

A few extension leads hanging around the place could have saved a bit of drama :)

I'm not sure about that. Powersurge had, what, a 6 hour downtime, yet most people here would still say they're a place to consider going with. If Burst/Nocster keep having big downtimes (maybe even if they just have one or two more) then maybe it's time to say they suck. But as of yet, I still think they're good.
