View Full Version : What Info do you ask from your customers?
AceWeb 08-12-2002, 03:06 AM Just wondering. Some hosts make clients fill out pages of personal info, some ask simple questions. What kinds of info are you asking on an application for your customers?
I ask:
Name, Address, Phone, (work, fax, pager optional), 2 e-mail addresses (optional too).
What do you ask?

mas3000 08-12-2002, 03:09 AM All I really require is there name and email. But my CC processor needs their address, CC info, email, phone... so if I really need any of that kind of information I can just go to my CC processor.

cactus 08-12-2002, 03:37 AM I don't want to complicate things for a prospective client when it's so close to signing up and ask the minimum details such as:
1)Full Name
2)Email Address
3)Choose a Username
4)Choose a Password
5)Domain Name
6) Accept the TOS
Then direct the client to my cc proccessing to handle more detailed information of the client and finally payment.
when I receive advised from my cc processor company, the client has paid with the details(Address, Country, etc.) and with the above proceed to setup and account in phpManager where an account is also automatically setup in WHM
After that, send a welcome email(phpManager does it for me) to the client with the full details as usual.

i think. you could check my order page.
CDHost 08-12-2002, 12:05 PM We occasionally require a faxed or scanned copy of a government ID (such as a valid driver's license, government employee id card, passport, etc) to verify their identity before setting up an account.
On US orders we usually don't look too deep (unless it's a large plan paid yearly) but on international orders we almost always require some additional information to verify identification since a lot of the credit card features such as AVS don't work with international orders.

Do people give you grief because of the cost/inconvenience of an international fax?
AceWeb 08-12-2002, 02:49 PM Ok. Would anyone host a client who pays by money check/order, and does not want to give out thier Phone or address? I just turned away a clinet who did not want to give out any info about himslef.
CDHost 08-12-2002, 04:07 PM We're a fairly new company and I haven't had too many requests for international accounts. Our primary concern is keeping our servers up and running and keeping fraud to a minimum. I have had in depth conversations with several credit card processing companies, and there are many advancements in the works that will help cut down on international fraud.
Right now there is no real way to verify international orders... AVS and CVV2 don't work (CVV2 doesn't work well anyway) so they're useless when it comes to security. If we had a better way of verifying information we'd be happy to set up the account.

How old are you ? :D :D Joke
Yeah, I do not ask for the age either. If a person pays by CC or check, so i assume they are old enogth.

If the client is paying by money order then it is no problem if he does not give me any information, cash is in hand, he can not do a chargeback, as long as I have a name, and an e-mail address, I would take the account
