View Full Version : Windows Reseller Plan - Fusy about criteria
osirion 01-23-2008, 06:05 AM Hi There,
Ok, I've been with JodoHost for some time now and I am sick and tired of HSphere. I cannot handle it any more. Nothing really wrong with JodoHost itself - but I need an intelligent persons control panel, not an illogical, featureless, powerless control panel!
What I am looking for:
- Control panel OTHER than HSphere
- Unlimited accounts
- Windows Reseller (ONLY, dont need dual OS support)
- ASP Support
- MS SQL support and preferably UNLIMITED databases
What I would -really- like
- ColdFusion support
Misc Stuff:
Space / Traffic: Small amount- entry level stuff, only have a handful of clients currently using this type of hosting
Budget: Up to 30U$D max
Sorry for posting such a thread, but I've done searches and all I can find is people offering HSphere!
Softsys Hosting 01-23-2008, 07:01 AM Check out the Reseller Hosting Offers section. I'm sure you'll find one meeting your requirements.
Good luck!
osirion 01-23-2008, 07:44 AM Ive done that already, cant find anything to my specs. Quote request is also not very helpful for the criteria I need. Thats why I put 'fusy criteria' in my subject :P
ResellerZoom looks good, but no ColdFusion :(
Would really like to implement my Windows and CF clients 'under one roof'...
AllenB 01-23-2008, 10:36 AM Hello osirion,
I believe cartikahosting does CF and has some good reviews here.
Good luck w/ your search and best wishes!

Cartika does have a great service but they too use HSphere.
LivinGeek 01-23-2008, 11:30 AM I think where you are going to hit a road block is with the "MS SQL support and preferably UNLIMITED databases" at $30/month. A VPS might be better suited for your needs, but you would have to pay more for that.
PCTechMe 01-23-2008, 11:40 AM Livingeek hit the nail on the head. First thing that came to my mind was a VPS from kickassvps but you would definately need to increase your budget. All the other plans I found that came close were with HSphere. You can broaden your search with WIndows Plesk and Helm resellers as both of those CPs do support CF.
LivinGeek 01-23-2008, 11:49 AM To add a little insight from the hosting end, <<snipped>> you need to realize how expensive Cold Fusion, MS SQL 2005, HELM, and a Windows License is per server. That is why people like myself just can't give away plans with unlimited space and bandwidth (**see every linux hosting plan**) because its over $200/month per server alone when you are talking all those licenses.
On that note, if you find a host with close to the criteria you need, just inquire about a custom plan. All hosting companies have a little wiggle room.

Hello osirion,
Obviously not every control panel can appease everyone - no problem what so ever and completely understood... however, to be fair, you arent going to find many control panels with more features and more capabilities then hsphere. If the logic of hsphere doesnt agree with you - heck, that I can understand - but, can you please show me ANY control panel with more features or ANY control panel that is more powerful?
Based on your comments however, I would look for hosts offering the Helm control panel. It is nicely laid out, has a good feature set and is pretty easy to navigate. It only handles Windows however, but, that seems to be a perfect fit for you. Off the top of my head, maybe look at providers like cyberhostpro & discountasp? I am sure there are others, I am just drawing a blank at the moment...
PCTechMe 01-23-2008, 12:56 PM Cyberhost Pro is who I was trying to remember. I thought they had CF support but a quick check on their site doesn't confirm that. Same with Discount ASP.
Ultima VPS 01-23-2008, 02:44 PM Interesting comments about HSphere. Check out DotNetPanel and perhaps look at getting a VPS so you can install your own CF server.
osirion 01-24-2008, 06:48 AM Yeah, ok, perhaps I was a bit harsh. But I just feel that HSphere is made for someone who doesnt know what they're doing. For example, I had to ask my service provider to change the NS records for a clients account - couldn't do this myself as a reseller?
In any case, I have used Plesk and it wasn't bad. I have seen Helm and it doesn't look to promising - but haven't really played with it to be fair. I use cPanel/WHM for my linux hosting and it does everything I need/want it to.
I have heard good things about DotNetPanel but its 'windows only' and they are only currently working on CF integration (not available yet apparently).
VPS is a bit overkill for the amount of ASP/CF clients I have.
Currently getting Windows hosting from JodoHost(Uses Hsphere, I hate it, speeds also seem a bit slow). and CF hosting from HostNexus (Uses Plesk; nice, just a bit slow).
Just another point I'd like to make, Im not trying to get 'unlimited ms sql' space. I want my clients to be able to create unlimited ms sql databases WITHIN their quota.

Hi osirion - lol - honestly, that is exactly the opposite of what we typically here. H-Sphere has the greatest feature set I have ever seen in a control panel. Though, by nature, control panels are somewhat built so that the average person can perform administrative types of functions. As for custom DNS for your end users - activate custom dns in the plan that this account belongs to, then select the domain from within the end user account you wish to work with and then select the edit button beside custom dns (unless I have misinterpreted your comment)

Well, thats a pretty exhaustive list of control panels. Not sure any other Windows CP's exist - so, if you think plesk is the best of the bunch, you should probably stick with that...

That shouldnt be too difficult to find. It is not unusual to limit total DB allocation or total disk space to be used for data bases. But, typically, the actual number of data bases one can create is usually limited by the space allocated to it, vs the actual number...
Sounds like you are already using hostnexus, that is probably who I would have suggested for plesk hosting...
best of luck with your search...
osirion 01-25-2008, 12:52 PM Anyone heard of http://www.datapacket.net/ ?
They seem to have Helm, unlimited MsSQL and CF support
LivinGeek 01-25-2008, 01:08 PM They look to have everything you want, and at the prices you are looking for. I like their design and simplicity, if you go with them let us know how you like it.

ptech 01-26-2008, 12:26 PM I would avoid ResellerZoom (sorry guys) at this time as they seem to be having a lot of growing pains and down time is frequent enough for me to start looking for a new windows reseller.
I have Winows and Linux reseller accounts with them and really like the company but keeping clients happy is #1
Ive done that already, cant find anything to my specs. Quote request is also not very helpful for the criteria I need. Thats why I put 'fusy criteria' in my subject :P

osirion 01-27-2008, 01:15 AM Im not to worried about the windows reseller part of things because HostGator will be coming up with windows hosting and I've been with them for years for my Linux hosting and they're great so Im sure they will provide an equally great Windows solution. Its just the wait now until it actually gets released.
My bigger concern is ColdFusion, and if HG doesnt offer it with their Windows solutions (probably so); then Ill just have to stick with HostNexus by the looks of things.
Thanks for the head's up on datapacket; already got a bad vibe when they didnt have live chat :P
